The Black Hills State Track and Field teams competed in their first indoor meet of the season Friday and Saturday at the Donald E Young Center.

The Jackets had a successful first outing with multiple athletes placing in the top five of their events. The competition started on Friday with the women's pentathlon, men's heptathlon, pole vault, weight throw, and long jump on Friday and the remaining events rounding out the meet on Saturday. The Yellow Jackets currently have two provisional national marks that were set in the opening meet of the season with
Kyla Sawvell being ranked 8
th nationally currently in the nation and
Hannah Hendrick being tied for 8
th nationally currently in the pole vault.

In field events the Yellow Jackets had a strong outing with first place finishers in the women's weight throw (
Kyla Sawvell), women's long jump (
Samantha Bates), women's triple jump (
Samantha Bates), women's pole vault (
Hannah Hendricks), and men's pole vault (
Ryan Foy). Other top three finishers included
Maddi Fidler (2
nd in women's weight throw),
Kyla Sawvell (2
nd in women's shot put),
Alex Marius (3
rd men's triple jump),
Drazen Moratzka (3
rd men's high jump), and
JoJo Sherman (2
nd women's pole vault).

On the track the distance runners competed well bringing home first and second (
Xiomara Robinson and
Ruby Lindquist) in the women's one mile run while the men had
Keith Osowski lead the pack with a first-place finish. In the 800-meter run
Ruby Lindquist came in first with
Erica Dykstra following close behind in 2
nd. The Yellow Jackets had a clean sweep in the 3000-meter run from both the men and the women with
Xiomara Robinson,
Sylvia Brown, and
Morgan Wald placing 1
st, 2
nd, 3
rd for the women and
Matthew Parker and
Keith Osowski placing 1
st and 2
nd for the men.

In the sprints the Jackets had one first place finisher
Breanne Fuller who took first in the women's 60- and 200-meter dashes. The Jackets also earned first place in the women's 4x400 which was run by
Mikayla Tracy,
Erica Dykstra,
Hannah Hendrick, and
Breanne Fuller. Other top three finishers in the sprints included
Sophie Curtis (2
nd women's 60-meter hurdles),
Seth Hills (2
nd men's 60-meter hurdles), Conor McGraw (3
rd men's 60-meter hurdles),
Hannah Struble (3
rd women's 60-meter dash & 200-meter dash),
Larenzo Ebell (3
rd men's 60-meter dash & 2
nd 200-meter dash), and
Mikayla Tracy (2
nd women's 400-meter dash). The Yellow Jackets also had the men's 4x400 relay place second which was run by
Frank Becker,
Shane McGraw,
Larenzo Ebell, and Ryan Rafferty.
