Volleyball Falls to Griffins in Three


SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - Black Hills State women's volleyball fell to Westminster College in straight sets Saturday afternoon.
 
The Yellow Jackets lost set one 25-20, lost set two 25-17, and lost set three 27-25.
 
Madison Hoopman led the Yellow Jackets in kills recording 11 on the afternoon.
 
Karly Marx led the team in assists recording 35 and was also the dig leader for BHSU with eight.
 
In set one the Yellow Jackets opened up scoring putting up three points before the Griffins got on the board. However multiple scoring runs would put the Griffins ahead of the Yellow Jackets after the two teams were locked up at 15 apiece. The Griffins would go on to outscore the Yellow Jackets 10-5 to win set one 25-20.
 
In set two BHSU would open up scoring putting up four straight points. BHSU would hold that lead by a narrow margin before the Griffins would snag a quick five straight points to take the lead forcing a BHSU timeout with the score set at 11-9. The Griffins would hold onto that lead going on two more scoring runs to bring the score to 19-12 forcing another BHSU timeout. The Yellow Jackets would attempt to rally back out of the timeout but would ultimately fall behind two sets after losing set two 25-17.
 
Set three saw the two teams play competitive ball trading points through much of the set. BHSU took a slight two-point advantage and held that advantage through the beginning of play until the Griffins would score five straight points to knot things up at 14 forcing a BHSU timeout. From that point on the Yellow Jackets would score nine to the Griffins eight keeping the game close at 23-22 in favor of BHSU. The Griffins would end up taking home the victory after trading points with BHSU 27-25.

The Yellow Jackets take on Western Colorado in Gunnison October 22nd followed by Fort Lewis College on October 23rd.
