GUNNISON, Colo. - Black Hills State volleyball fell to Western Colorado in four sets Friday night in Gunnison.

The Yellow Jackets lost set one 25-15, lost set two 25-23, won set three 25-23, and lost set four 25-16.

Three Yellow Jackets led the team in kills with
Kindra Cerrone and
Mariah Robinson recording 15 each and
Madison Hoopman recording 13.

Karly Marx led the team in assists with 49 on the night.

Haedyn Rhoades was the dig leader for BHSU with 17 digs on the night while
Kindra Cerrone and
Brooke Franklin each recorded 15.

In set one the Yellow Jackets go on the board first going up 2-0. However, the Mountaineers would score eight straight points forcing a BHSU time out. Although the Yellow Jackets would battle to overcome the early deficit, the Mountaineers would continue to put together scoring runs eventually leading to a 25-15 loss for the Yellow Jackets.

In set two the Yellow Jackets and Mountaineers would stay close throughout the set. BHSU and Western Colorado would stay within two of each other until the Mountaineers would pull ahead by three at 19-16 at which point BHSU would take a time out. Out of the timeout BHSU would pull within one at 21-20 looking for a chance to take the set two victory. The Mountaineers would go on to outscore BHSU 4-3 to take the set two victory 25-23 over the Yellow Jackets.

Peyton Bodemann opened scoring in set three. The Mountaineers and the Yellow Jackets would then trade points until the score was locked at five apiece. The Mountaineers would go on to put up four straight points to take a 9-5 lead over the Yellow Jackets forcing a BHSU time out. The Yellow Jackets would respond scoring six points to the Mountaineers two to tie things up at 11 forcing a Western Colorado time out. Out of the time out BHSU would take its first lead of the night going up 12-11. BHSU would continue building up that lead leading by as much as four points at 22-18. The Mountaineers would attempt a rally, but the Yellow Jackets would take the set after a 25-23 victory.

Set four would stay evenly matched between the two teams until late into the set. The teams would be locked at 12 all before the Mountaineers would go on to outscore the Yellow Jackets 13-4 taking the set four victory and the match victory 3-1.
