Soccer to Wrap Up Home Slate This Weekend

Black Hills State women's soccer will play two final matches at Ronnie Theisz Field this season, closing their home schedule with weekend games against Fort Lewis and Western Colorado.

The Yellow Jackets (3-8-1, 2-6-1 RMAC) will take on Fort Lewis on Friday, Oct. 29 at 3 p.m., before facing Western Colorado on Sunday, Oct. 31 at 11 a.m.

Sunday's game will be the team's Senior Day, in which the program will honor their six seniors before the game.

"This weekend presents an exciting opportunity for our program," said Head Coach Andrew Conniff. "We are one result away from having the winningest season in Black Hills State soccer history. It would be a great testament to our six seniors and the work they have put in to be in this situation."

The Yellow Jackets have seen lots of growth this season, as the program which began in 2016 continues to develop. That growth can be seen in the statistics, with several team and individual program records on the line.

With five goals scored this season, sophomore Emma Avery is one shy of having the most goals scored in a season. Makayla Dannelly is on pace to have the best Goals Against Average in a season, and is currently .001% off of having the highest save percentage in a season.

As a team, BHSU is four goals away from having the most goals scored in a season.

"We play Fort Lewis on Friday, who is a very quality team," said Conniff. "The result of that game has huge implication on RMAC Tournament bids. Western Colorado has had similar results to us against most opponents, and I expect it to be a very difficult game."

Fort Lewis has a record similar to BHSU this season, tying with Adams State and earning their lone RMAC victory over New Mexico Highlands. The Skyhawks are coming off of last weekend, losing to each No. 18 Colorado Mines, 3-0, and to Regis, 3-2.

The two teams have played four times, with their last matchup being Sept. 20, 2019 which resulted in a 0-0 tie. BHSU will be looking for its first win over Fort Lewis.

The Mountaineers also only have one conference win this season, which came against Adams State, 2-1. Since then, WCU has lost five-of-six, with the exception being a 0-0 tie with Colorado Christian.

The Yellow Jackets have played Western four times in their history and are 1-3 in that time. The two teams last played on Oct. 4, 2019, in which BHSU came away with a 4-2 win at home.
