Another successful weekend for the Black Hills State track and field teams is highlighted by two provisional qualifiers and two improved provisional marks.
"We had some great things take place this weekend," said head coach
Seth Mischke. "Some athletes moved themselves into the conference championships, we had a number of national provisional marks met, and many personal bests established. With hosting the RMAC Championships next weekend we needed to see some fight from our kids and many of them stepped up."
Friday night the women's distance medley relay ran by
Ruby Lindquist,
Mikayla Tracy,
Taylor Lundquist, and
Xiomara Robinson finished their race in 12:01.36 giving them a provisionally qualifying time and Saturday
JoJo Sherman jumped 3.68M (12-00.75 ft) to give herself a provisionally qualifying mark in the women's pole vault.
Xiomara Robinson improved her provisional mark in the 3K completing her race in 9:57.96 and
Kyla Sawvell improved her provisional mark in the shot-put throwing 14.34M (47-00.75 ft).
Sprints
Breanne Fuller was the leader for the Yellow Jackets in the sprints winning both races she competed in this weekend. Fuller recorded a 7.88 finish in the 60M dash and 25.71 finish in the 200M.
Mikayla Tracy recorded a second-place finish in the women's 400M dash in 59.85. For the men
Larenzo Ebell finished second in the men's 200 with a time of 22.86 and
Shane McGraw placed third in the 400 with a time of 53.11.
Relays
The women's distance medley not only provisionally qualified, but also placed first in their race. The women's 4x400 ran by
Mikayla Tracy,
Breanne Fuller,
Erica Dykstra, and
Samantha Bates also recorded a first-place finish with a time of 4:08.73 while the men's 4x400 ran by
Seth Hills,
Shane McGraw, Ryan Rafferty, and
Larenzo Ebell finished with a time of 3:34.44 placing third.
Distance
Xiomara Robinson brought home a first-place finish while improving her provisionally qualifying mark in the 3000M run while
Ruby Lindquist took first in the women's mile with a time of 5:06.81.
Sylvia Brown also finished first in the women's 5000M run finishing in 18:45.53. For the men, Matt Parker finished the men's 3000M in 8:43.36 and took second while Tim Brown ran the 800 in 2:01.49 taking third.
Field
Kyla Sawvell racked up two more first place finishes this weekend in the women's weight throw and shot-put recording 18.18M (59-07.75 ft) in the weight throw and 14.34M (47-00.75 ft) in the shot-put.
Hoyt Nicholas took third place in the men's weight throw and shot-put recording 16.83M (55-02.75 ft) in the weight throw and 14.77M (48-05.50 ft) in the shot put. In the pole vault
Ryan Foy took third for the men jumping 4.45M (14-07.25 ft) while
JoJo Sherman and
Hannah Hendrick each jumped 3.68M (12-00.75 ft) placing second and third, respectively.
Reece Ullery took third in the men's triple jump with a jump of 13.40M (43-11.75 ft) while
Samantha Bates took third in the women's long jump with a jump of 5.38M (17-08.00 ft).
Drazen Moratzka took third in the men's high jump with a jump of 1.96M (6-05.00 ft).
