Black Hills State volleyball played hard in four sets against the Regis University Rangers Thursday, Feb. 25^th at the Donald E. Young Center, but ultimately fell 1-3 to the Rangers.
 
After getting off to a slow start in the first set the Yellow Jackets were able to put together scoring runs against the Rangers to go up 10-7 midway through the set. The Rangers did not give up rallying back to tie the game at 13 all and would then go on a scoring run outscoring BHSU 12-7 to walk away with the set 1 victory.
 
The Yellow Jackets would begin the second set hot jumping out to a 5-1 lead before Regis would get hot and tie the game up at 5 all. Midway through the set the Yellow Jackets would pull within one of the Rangers at 14-15 before Regis would go on a scoring run outscoring BHSU 10-3 to take the 25-17 set victory.
 
After falling behind by two sets the Yellow Jackets were looking for answers heading into set three. An attack error by Regis would give BHSU the first point of the set and the Yellow Jackets would carry that momentum through the set. The two teams would trade points for much of the early part of the set tying the game nine times before BHSU would lock in on offense going on an 11-4 scoring run to give them their first set victory of the night.
 
The Yellow Jackets would need to win their next two sets in order to record the victory over the Rangers. The final set would not go their way as they would be outscored by the Rangers 25-15. After falling behind 4-9 BHSU would call a time out to try to shift the momentum back in their favor. After the time out Regis would increase their lead to as much as nine points 15-6 over the Yellow Jackets before going on a back and forth scoring spree with the Rangers. The Rangers would win the set 25-15 while also recording the game victory 3-1.
 
The Yellow Jackets were led in kills by Madison Hoopman (9), Emma Desanti (8), and Kindra Cerrone (7) on the night. Peyton Bodemann recorded two aces on the night as did Hoopman. Karly Marx and Alexis Trowbridge led the team in assists racking in 15 apiece.
 
Valerie Blake was the team leader defensively in digs recording 14. While Emma Desanti racked in the most blocks with three on the night.
