Black Hills State Track and Field is capping off a successful indoor season with five athletes set to compete in four events in Birmingham, Ala. this weekend in the NCAA DII Indoor Track and Field Championships.

The competition will take place beginning Thursday, March 11 with the women's pentathlon and men's heptathlon and will be followed by men's and women's weight throw. For BHSU Kayla Sawvell will be competing at 3:00 p.m. in the women's weight throw with a qualifying mark of 18.80m this indoor season. She is currently ranked 11th out of 14 competitors.

Competition will continue Friday with the men's heptathlon wrapping up before the men will begin competing in field events including shot put, long jump, and high jump beginning with the shot put at 10:00 a.m. Events begin on the track at 1:00 p.m. on a rolling schedule while the women will begin competing in field events at 3:00 p.m. with the women's shot put. Kyla Sawvell will lead things off on Friday competing in the women's shot put at 3:00 p.m. with a qualifying mark of 14.48m. Currently, Sawvell is ranked 12th of 13 competitors. Next,Â
Xiomara Robinson will take to the track in the women's mile at 6:00 p.m. Robinson will be competing in heat two of the women's mile and qualified with a mile time of 4:52.04 and is ranked 9th out of 13 competitors. The Distance Medley Relay will wrap up competition for the Yellow Jackets on Friday and will also round out competition on the weekend for BHSU at 7:45 p.m. The relay will be run by Robinson, Lindquist, Lundquist, and Tracy. The relay qualified with a time of 11:40.20 and is ranked 8th out of 10 teams.

The meet will wrap up on Sunday with finals on the track and a hand full of field events and relays. BHSU does not have any athlete's who will be competing in Sunday's events.
