Track and Field Crowns Five All-Americans

Black Hills State track and field had a successful outing in Birmingham, Ala. crowning five All-Americans at the NCAA DII Indoor Track and Field Championships.
 
The Yellow Jackets had one competitor Thursday afternoon with Kyla Sawvell competing in the weight throw. Sawvell threw 17.92m (58 ft. 4.5 in.) in the weight throw placing 11th.
 
Friday Sawvell started out the day in circle this time competing in shot put. Kyla threw 14.52m in the prelims to earn herself a place in the finals where she would throw a personal best throw of 15.04m (49 ft. 4.5 in.). This throw would earn Sawvell a third-place finish in the shot put and All-American status.
 
Next up was Xiomara Robinson on the track. Robinson qualified to run in the women's mile and would finish with a time of 4:55.66. This time would be a personal best for Robinson and earn her an 11th place finish.
 
Rounding out the Yellow Jackets competing at Nationals would be the women's distance medley relay. Running for the Yellow Jackets was Ruby Lindquist, Mikayla Tracy, Taylor Lundquist, and Xiomara Robinson. BHSU finished the distance medley relay in 11:41.97 which would not only earn the team 7th place and All-American status but would also break the school record this team had set earlier in the season.
 
Up Next
The Yellow Jackets now look to the outdoor season which the team will open at home Friday March 26 and Saturday March 27 at the Yellow Jacket Spring Open.
