Yellow Jackets Sweep Hardrockers in Home Opener

Black Hills State volleyball swept the Hardrockers in three sets Tuesday night.
 
The Yellow Jackets (4-5, 1-0 RMAC) won set one 27-25, set two 25-20, and finished the three-set sweep with a 25-16 in front of a 500-person crowd at the Donald E Young Center.
 
Madison Hoopman and Mariah Robinson recorded nine kills each leading the team in kills against the Hardrockers.
 
Karly Marx paced the Yellow Jackets with 32 sets and six digs.
 
Haedyn Rhoades led the team in digs recording 13.
 
Marx and Rhoades led the team with two aces each.
 
Peyton Bodemann and Sierra Ward were strong at the net each recording five block assists with Bodemann also recording one solo block.
 
BHSU and SDSMT kept it close through set one from the jump with the teams being knotted up ten times throughout play. With the score tied at 24 all South Dakota Mines would take a one point lead over the Yellow Jackets to put the game within one. Madison Hoopman would step in to seal the game for the Yellow Jackets recording a kill and then putting up two strong serves to put the Yellow Jackets ahead 27-25 for the set one victory.
 
Set two started out strong for the Yellow Jackets with Bodemann and Ward throwing up a block to get the scoring started. The Yellow Jackets and Hardrockers would end up tied at 12 all before BHSU would go on a 6-2 scoring run that would give them the edge in the remainder of the set. Ultimately the Yellow Jackets would win set two 25-20.
 
The Yellow Jackets put on a clinic in the third set putting together strong scoring runs which would put them up by as much as nine points twice throughout play. The set started out close with the teams being tied at 1,2,3,4, and 6 before the Yellow Jackets would dig in and defeat the Hardrockers decisively 25-16.
