Black Hills State women's volleyball will compete in its second non-conference tournament of the year this weekend as they compete in the 2021 Tiger Classic at Fort Hays State University.Â
BHSU will compete in four matches throughout the tournament starting things off against Southwest Minnesota State University at 9:00 A.M. Friday, Sept. 10 followed by Emporia State University at 4 P.M. On Saturday the Yellow Jackets will take on Cameron University at 9:00 A.M. and will wrap up play against the host team, the Fort Hays State University Tigers, at 12:30 P.M.Â
Last weekend the Yellow Jackets with 2-2 at the Yellow Jacket Invitational Presented by Hilton Garden Inn in Billings, Mont. BHSU started off the weekend losing to the host team in three sets before defeating MSU Moorhead in five sets. In day two of play the Yellow Jackets fell to Saint Martin's University in five before defeating Bemidji State in three to close out the weekend.Â

BHSU (2-2) VS SMSU (4-0)Â
The Mustangs come into the weekend on a four-game winning streak after competing at the Colorado School of Mines Classic Sept. 3 and 4. SMSU defeated Colorado Mesa in four sets before defeating Grand Valley State (Mich.), Colorado Christian, and Colorado School of Mines in straight sets. This is the first time the Yellow Jackets will square off against SMSU since Sept. 1, 1985. In that contest the Mustangs came out on top in four sets.Â

The Hornets come into the weekend on a three-game losing streak after competing at the Southeastern Classic Sept. 3 and 4. Emporia State University had its first game of the weekend canceled versus Texas A&M Commerce before falling in straight sets to both UT – Tyler and Southeastern Oklahoma. The hornets then fell in four sets to Southern Nazarene 1-3. The last time the Yellow Jackets and Hornets faced off was Sept. 4, 2015, with the Yellow Jackets falling in straight sets to the Hornets.Â

Cameron University comes into this weekend's tournament on a three-game losing streak after competing at the Washburn Invitational Sept. 3 and 4. Cameron University won its first game of the weekend defeating Minot State in five sets. The team then took on William Jewell falling in four sets 1-3. Cameron University then took on #25 Rockhurst falling in straight sets before closing out the weekend against #19 Harding and falling in four sets 1-3. The last time the Yellow Jackets faced off against Cameron University was Sept. 7, 2019 and BHSU walked away with the victory in four sets.Â

FHSU comes into the weekend's tournament on a one game winning streak after competing at the Steel City Showcase Sept. 3 and 4. The Tigers won their first matchup against Minnesota Crookston in straight sets before fall to CSU Pueblo and Chadron State in straight sets. In their final matchup of the tournament the Tigers defeated University of Mary in straight sets to finish 2-2. The last time the Yellow Jackets and the Tigers faced off was Aug. 31, 2018 with the Yellow Jackets took the victory in straight sets.
