Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Defense Hangs Tough on Senior Day

Black Hills State women's soccer celebrated their seniors on Friday afternoon, honoring them before the match against Westminster, before falling 2-0.

The Yellow Jackets (1-10-2) had shots from Leah Day and Haley Hesselgesser on the day, while Makayla Dannelly hauled in seven saves in the box.

WC applied pressure early in the game, but the Yellow Jacket defense fended off six shots in the opening 30 minutes of play. The Griffins got on the board in the 31st minute, though, finding the right side of the net to move ahead 1-0.

As the clock ticked down in the first half, Hesselgesser was able to get a shot off, but it went wide right and the game went into halftime, still 1-0.

Out of the break, Dannelly tallied four saves over the next 15 minutes to keep the match within a one, until the Griffins scored their second goal of the game in the 63rd minute to make it 2-0.

Leah Day put up a shot that missed right shortly after the goal, but teams would trade possessions the rest of the way as WC held on for the 2-0 win.
