TACOMA, Wash. – Both of Black Hills State's cross country teams competed at the NCAA Division II Pre-National tournament on Saturday morning.
The men held a ninth place overall finish out of the 27-team field.
Tim Brown (24:36.30) led the Yellow Jackets squad with a 24
th place individual finish, with his time good for a new personal best 8K mark.
Keith Osowski (25:13.00),
Lincoln Fleischman (25:13.70), and
Matt Parker (25:16.30) all finished in a pack for 58
th, 61
st, and 66
th, respectively. Fleischman's run crushed his previous best 8K time by over two minutes, while
Matt Parker's run also outperformed his personal best 8K time from last year, which he recorded at the RMAC Cross Country Championships (that time was 25:50.60).
Britton Elkin (25:39.30) finished in 91
st,
Hayden Grosz (26:06.90) finished in 115
th, and
Mason Swingholm (26:27.00) placed in 138
th. Grosz's time was yet another career high mark conquered for the Yellow Jackets, beating his 2021 Roy Griak Invitational time by a near minute and a half.
Justyn France was the final Yellow Jacket to cross the finish line, clocking out at 151
st (26:47.00) that, once again, made for a new personal best time recorded for the Yellow Jackets. In total, 223 runners competed in the DII Men's 8K, making up 29 teams that competed in Tacoma.
On the women's side of the competition,
Sylvia Brown (21:35.80) led the Yellow Jacket ladies with a 17
th place finish in the 6K race, with
Xiomara Robinson (22:04.90) completing the race in 35
th.
Katie Turpin (23:55.80) finished 133
rd, and
Evie Boyd (26:20.80) rounded out the BHSU ladies in 202
nd.
Brown bested her time from her RMAC Championships run last year, where she timed out at 22:53.30. For the women's DII 6K, 236 runners made up the 30 teams racing in the event.
