GUNNISON, Colo. – Black Hills State women's soccer dropped it's Sunday match at Western Colorado, 2-1.
The Yellow Jackets (1-12-2) scored their first goal since the team's 1-0 win over Colorado Christian on Sept. 16.
BHSU produced fours shots and two on goal in the game, along with
Emma Avery's second goal of the season. Avery finished with two shots in the game in addition to the goal.
Lexi Crow recorded her first career assist while
Haley Hesselgesser tallied a shot on goal.
Darby Whiteley also put up a shot in the match.
Makayla Dannelly was bust between the pipes, facing 27 shots, 17 of which were on goal. Despite the pressure, Dannelly was able to keep the Mountaineers to only two goals while recording a season-high 15 saves.
Emma Avery got the Yellow Jackets on the board early, taking a pass from Crow and booting it past the keeper into the left side of the net for the goal to put BHSU ahead 1-0 in the second minute.
The Yellow Jackets continued to pressure on offense as Hesselgesser put up a shot on goal, also towards the lower left side of the goal, but the Mountaineer keeper was able to corral it to keep the match at 1-0.
Meanwhile on defense, the team held WCU scoreless in the opening half despite facing 10 shots. Dannelly faced four shots on goal and kept all of them out of the net as the game entered halftime, 1-0 in favor of the Yellow Jackets.
The Mountaineers finally were able to get on the board in the 50th minute with a goal to even the score at 1-1. They would eventually take a 2-1 lead a few minutes later with a goal in the 57th minute.
The Yellow Jackets gave themselves chances down the stretch with shots from
Emma Avery the 58th minute and Whiteley in the 81st minute, but would fall 2-1.
