Soccer Creates Offensive Opportunities in Loss to Adams State

ALAMOSA, Colo. – Black Hills State women's soccer dropped its Friday match to Adams State, 2-0.

The Yellow Jackets (1-8-2) tied their RMAC season-best with nine shots on the day.

Emma Avery totaled four shots with three on goal as she reached 20 shots in a season for the second straight year, while Leah Day also recorded a shot on goal.

Darby Whiteley, Lexi Crow, Lena Homan and Sophie Brassard also tallied a shot each.

Goalkeeper Makayla Dannelly tallied four saves on 11 shots faced.

The Yellow Jackets pressured early on with a pair of good looks that allowed Avery a shot on goal in the second minute and a Whiteley shot in the fifth minute.

The BHSU offense would continue to press as Avery got off another shot on goal in the 22nd minute and Day had a shot on net in the 28th minute. The ASU keeper was able to hold the Yellow Jackets scoreless, though, as the match went into halftime 1-0 in favor of ASU.

Out of the break, BHSU continued to give themselves chances. Avery put up her third shot on goal in 54th minute and Crow got a shot off in the 56th minute.

ASU would score again in the 65th minute to extend their lead to 2-0 as the Yellow Jackets continued to try and find the back of the net. Avery booted her fourth shot of the game in the 71st minute and Homan tallied her first shot of the season in the 78th minute.

A Brassard shot in the 85th minute was BHSU's ninth of the game, matching the team's season high in RMAC play. But despite the offense giving themselves good opportunities, BHSU couldn't get anything into the net as they eventually fell 2-0.
