Offense Has Another Strong Showing at NMHU

LAS VEGAS, N.M. – Black Hills State women's soccer pressured New Mexico Highlands all day but was held scoreless in its 1-0 loss on Sunday afternoon.

The Yellow Jackets (1-9-2) out-shot the Cowboys, 12-6 in the match with eight shots in the second half.

Sophie Brassard had two shots on the day including a shot on goal, while Darby Whiteley had the team's other shot on goal.

Haley Hesselgesser tallied three shots in the match, Emma Avery had two, and Alexa Buckley, Chloe Lonneman, Lexi Crow and Leah Day each added a shot as well.

Makayla Dannelly tallied two saves on six shots faced between the pipes.

The Yellow Jackets and Cowgirls traded possessions all day, but BHSU was able to get four good looks in the first half, putting up four shots in the half compared to NMHU's three.

Buckley got a shot off early in the game, coming in the 10th minute, before shots from Hesselgesser, Lonneman and Avery near the end of the half rounded out the Yellow Jacket chances in the period. Neither team was able to find net in the first 45 minutes of play, though, as the game went scoreless into halftime.

NMHU would get on the board after the break with a goal in the 48th minute to move ahead 1-0. Avery got off another shot in the 52nd minute before Whiteley had the team's first shot on goal in the 59th minute, but the Yellow Jackets were still looking for the back of the net.

BHSU continued to get good looks, though, with shots from Brassard, Hesselgesser and Crow all between the 68th and 69th minutes.

Brassard got off a shot on goal in the 72nd minute she tried to sneak into the lower right corner of the goal, but the NMHU keeper was able to grab it for her second save of the game.

Hesselgesser's third shot of the game sailed high in the 76th minute as the Yellow Jacket offense continued to pressure.

BHSU would get one final shot off in the 89th minute as Leah Day booted a free kick toward the goal, but it missed high before time expired, and the match ended 1-0 in favor of NMHU.
