Black Hills State Athletics was primed for a big Gold Rush weekend, but an incoming winter storm in the forecast caused the rescheduling of the Will Lantis Yellow Jacket Stampede and the football spring game, as well as the cancelation of the Black Hills Tri Fest.
Yellow Jacket softball had already been moved from Spearfish to Fort Lewis previously in the week due to the forecast, and the spring football game which had been moved from Saturday to Thursday evening in the hopes of avoiding poor conditions was called about 15 minutes into the game due to lightning in the area. The defense was leading 14-0 at the time of cancelation after a pair of turnovers on downs and a couple of 3-and-outs.
The Will Lantis Yellow Jacket Stampede rodeo event, previously scheduled for April 23 and 24, is rescheduled to next weekend, April 29 and 30 with performances starting at 7 p.m. both nights.
The Black Hills Tri Fest was scheduled to be held on Saturday, April 23 but has been canceled. The event will be held again next year on Sunday, April 23, 2023, and all registered for the 2022 event will be deferred for free registration to the 2023 event.
