Bryce Johnson Added to BHSU Athletics Communications Staff

Black Hills State Athletics has named Bryce Johnson as Assistant Director of Athletics Communications and Video Content Services.

"We're happy to welcome Bryce into the Yellow Jacket family and the Athletic Communications Department," said Assistant AD for Communications, Riley Baker. "I'm excited for him to bring in his new creative energy and make a positive impact on our student-athletes and athletic programs."

In this role, he will coordinate and execute the productions on the videoboards in both the Donald E. Young Center and Lyle Hare Stadium, including video and graphic production for both gameday and everyday use.

Johnson will also create media content for the athletic department, both digital and print, for the promotion of all athletic programs, student-athletes, events and fundraisers.

"I'm very excited to come to Spearfish to serve the student athletes of Black Hills State University and promote the Yellow Jacket brand," Johnson said. "It is an exciting time to be a part of BHSU Athletics and I look forward to the adventure that awaits within the Black Hills State Community."

Prior to BHSU, Johnson was an Athletic Communications Graduate Assistant at Roger Williams University, and concluded his time there as Interim Director of Athletic Communications. At RWU, he largely focused on developing video content in addition to producing and hosting the podcast Hawk Talk. He also contributed by writing press releases, working on the athletics website, and generating graphics and social media content.

Johnson is a 2020 graduate of Franklin Pierce University where he earned a degree in Sports Media.

With the Ravens, he worked three years in their Athletic Communications Office as Supervisor of Multimedia Productions where he was in charge of creating video content for Franklin Pierce Athletics social media and YouTube pages. He also aided with gameday operations, writing, and graphics for the Ravens.

While at Franklin Pierce, Johnson also spent four years as a broadcaster for Ravens Sports Network primarily as play-by-play announcer. He called numerous sports from baseball and basketball to field hockey and lacrosse.

In 2019 he earned a New England Emmy Honorable Mention for his work as a basketball broadcaster. His career behind the mic is highlighted by broadcasts of multiple conference and NCAA Tournament games including the 2018 Northeast-10 Women's Soccer Championship and 2018 and 2019 NCAA Regional Quarterfinals matchups for soccer.

In the summer of 2019, Johnson spent time as an intern as Production Coordinator for the Orleans Firebirds of the prestigious Cape Cod Baseball League. There he was in charge of producing both audio and video streams of all Firebirds games. Johnson returned to Orleans in the summer of 2021 in an advisory role as the Executive Producer for the Firebirds.

Prior to college, Johnson graduated Lyman Memorial High School in Lebanon, Connecticut where he was a three-sport athlete.
