BILLINGS, Mont. – Black Hills State women's soccer dropped its season opener, 2-0 to UMary Thursday afternoon.
The Yellow Jackets (0-1-0) totaled four shots on goal while the defense was able to fend off 18 shots faced.
Darby Whiteley put up two shots on goal while
Emma Avery and
Makayla Selensky each tallied one. In the box,
Makayla Dannelly recorded 10 saves.
BHSU got off a trio of shots on goal early in the game, but looks from Avery, Whiteley and Selensky were all corralled by the UMary goalkeeper.
Although Dannelly tallied three saves in the first half, UMary was able to find the back of the net in the 21st minute and take a 1-0 lead into the half.
Out of the break, the Yellow Jackets continued to try and get good looks. Whiteley would tally another shot on goal, but the team couldn't break through before UMary tacked on a second goal in the 86th minute and BHSU fell, 2-0.
