Black Hills State women's soccer overcame the elements and a tough RMAC opponent in Friday night's 1-0 victory over Colorado Christian.
The Yellow Jackets (1-2-2) open their 2022 RMAC schedule with a win over CCU for the second straight season.
Darby Whiteley scored the lone goal of the game for her first of the season.
Kayla Osegueda totaled two shots on goal in the game, while
Haley Hesselgesser and
Allie Brown each notched one as well.
The Yellow Jackets wasted no time to get on the board, scoring in just the second minute of the game. Whiteley was able to break away past a pair of CCU defenders and get into the box before a right-footed shot found the back of the net.
BHSU kept pressuring the Cougars, getting three shots off in the 11th minute. CCU would put up nine shots over the rest of the half, and the Yellow Jackets snuck in three shots over the final three minutes of the period as the game entered halftime, 1-0 in favor of the Yellow Jackets.
After an extended halftime that included a weather delay, CCU was able to get a few good looks early, totaling three shots over the first 15 minutes of the second half.
BHSU turned the field around after that, putting up a shot in the 69th minute, but from there it was back-and-forth the rest of the way as BHSU held on for the victory.
