The Yellow Jackets did not let up on their attack, going into multiple scoring runs to expand to a 21-14 lead. South Dakota Mines would turn their momentum around, creeping back to a 23-18 score at the first Yellow Jacket timeout, but the deficit would be too large for the Hardrockers to overcome and BHSU would take set one.

BHSU regained the lead once again with four scores of their own, but the Yellow Jackets would keep the throttle down and not give up their lead. South Dakota Mines stayed within reach of the Yellow Jackets, later racking up a pair of three-score series to bring the game within one at 22-21.
