Soccer to Host CSU Pueblo, UCCS This Weekend

Black Hills State women's soccer is back home this weekend to host CSU Pueblo and UC Colorado Springs on Friday and Sunday.

The Yellow Jackets will take on CSU Pueblo on Friday, Sept. 30 at 5 p.m. before their Sunday, Oct. 2 match at 11 a.m. against Metro State.

"These are both athletic and talented teams that have been very successful in recent seasons," said Head Coach Andrew Conniff. "UCCS is perennially in the NCAA Tournament, and Pueblo is just two years removed from winning the RMAC Tournament."

The Yellow Jackets are 1-5-2 on the season, coming off a weekend against two tough teams in Colorado Mines and Regis.

Black Hills State (1-5-2, 1-3-0 RMAC) vs. CSU Pueblo (2-8-0, 1-3-0 RMAC)
BHSU and CSU Pueblo both sit with a 1-3-0 record in the RMAC. The Thunderwolves' RMAC victory came against Fort Lewis on Sept.16 after their lone non-conference win over Bridgeport on Sept. 2.

"We look at the game against Pueblo as an opportunity to start building consistency again," added Conniff. "We have struggled defensively and will enter this match with something to prove. Being successful and proud of our performances at home is incredibly important to me and last time in Spearfish we didn't do that. We are very motivated to prove ourselves this weekend."

All-time, Yellow Jacket soccer is 0-5 against CSU Pueblo, having last played on Oct. 8, 2021, in which BHSU fell 3-1. This will be the first matchup in Spearfish between these two teams since the 2018 season.

Black Hills State (1-5-2, 1-3-0 RMAC) vs. UCCS (6-2-2, 3-1-0 RMAC)
This season, UCCS is third in the RMAC with a 3-1-0 record and their lone conference loss coming to Westminster.

UCCS has also played some tough opponent, including a close 3-1 loss to then No. 3 Dallas Baptist who is now the No. 1 team in the nation.

"This is a time of year where injuries start to accumulate and we need players to step up," said Conniff. "I hope our group can bring a more competitive mentality to our final training sessions of the week as we enter another important RMAC weekend."

BHSU soccer is 0-6 all-time against UCCS, last playing on Oct. 21, 2021 in a 5-0 loss. This will be the first time hosting UCCS since the 2018 season.
