Jacket Chats Episode 3: John Hutchison

In the third episode of Jacket Chats, the official podcast of Black Hills State University Athletics, first season Head Coach of the BHSU Women's Soccer team, John Hutchison joined the show. Alongside host Bryce Johnson, they discussed his team's program-best start, "rewriting" the team culture, and previewed this weekend's matchups against UCCS and CSU Pueblo.

John Hutchison joined the Yellow Jackets as Head Coach of the women's soccer program in April 2023, becoming the fourth head coach in program history.

Prior to BHSU, Hutchison spent four years at the helm of the Presentation College Saints women's soccer program where his teams improved each year at PC, going 0-12-2 in 2020 and 4-10-1 in 2021 before leading the 2022 squad to a winning 7-6-3 record, their second winningest season in history.

Before Presentation, Hutchison was a graduate assistant coach to the William Woods University men's soccer program.

During his time with the Owls, the team went 13-4-3 in back-to-back seasons and produced 4 All-Americans. The team also won their first AMC conference title, were ranked No. 22 in the nation and made the NAIA National Tournament for the first time in program history.

Prior to William Woods, Coach Hutchison was a Volunteer Assistant Coach in the 2016 season for the University of Arkansas women's soccer program. During that time, he helped lead the Razorbacks to the most wins in school history, two of which were against top 10 ranked programs, their first SEC conference championship appearance in 20 years, and a second round appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

Before going to Arkansas, Hutchison served as the graduate assistant for both the men's and women's soccer programs at Ottawa University for the 2013 and 2014 seasons. In this time there, he helped the men's team reach KCAC playoffs both years. With the women's program, he helped lead them to back-to-back conference titles as well as appearances in the NAIA National Championship Tournament.

Hutchison was a two-year member of the Columbia College men's soccer team, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Sports Management. Hutchison spent the first two years of his collegiate soccer career at Lincoln Land Community College. He also holds a Master's in Business Administration from Ottawa University.
