Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Yellow Jackets, Cowgirls, Draw 2-2

LAS VEGAS, N.M. – Black Hills State women's soccer had it's first draw of the season Friday night after a 2-2 tie at New Mexico Highlands.

The Yellow Jackets (3-6-1, 1-3-1 RMAC) outshot NMHU, 12 shots to seven, and had nine shots on goal to the Cowgirls' five.

Katy Vinton and Sophie Brassard each scored their first goals of the season. Vinton also finished with a total of three shots, all on goal.

Paige Hill also had three shots, all on goal, while Jayda Hammer had two shots with one on goal.

Samantha Turpen recorded an assist on Brassard's goal, while Leah Day, Kayla Truong and Audrey Sillanpaa also tallied shots on the day.

Goalkeeper Morgan Wood totaled three saves.

BHSU was able to press early with five shots on goal over the opening 15 minutes of play, but it was NMHU who would score first with a goal in the 23rd minute to take a 1-0 lead.

The Yellow Jackets kept applying pressure, though, until in the 43rd minute when Turpen booted a corner kick that Brassard was able to head in for the goal, evening the score at 1-1 going into the break.

Both teams traded shots out of the locker room until the 1-1 tie was broken in the 76th minute with an NMHU goal to put them ahead 2-1 with less than 14 minutes to play.

As time ticked down, the BHSU offense got some looks with Sillanpaa putting up a shot that missed to the right before Vinton evened the game up at 2-2 with a goal in the 85th minute.

The Yellow Jackets continued to apply pressure in the final minutes of play, seeing Hill put up two shots on goal, but both were corralled by the Cowgirls' keeper as the game ended 2-2.
