JOPLIN, Misso. – Black Hills State cross country's
Tim Brown and
Sylvia Brown wrapped up the season on Saturday morning as they represented the Yellow Jackets at the NCAA Division II National Championships.
Out of 263 runners in the men's field in Joplin, junior runner
Tim Brown landed in 93
rd in his first Nationals appearance with a 31:04.7 10k run. Sister and teammate,
Sylvia Brown, finished the women's 6k race in 87
th, recording a 21:28.5 to climb 11 places in the women's field of 264 student-athletes. Her appearance in this morning's races also marked the first appearance in Sylvia's career.
Both athletes completed the season with two total personal record runs in 2023: Tim landed a p.r. in the 2023 BHSU XC Invite 6k run earlier this season (18:59.8) before marking another career-best at the NCAA South Central Regionals (30:54.9) 10k race.
Sylvia posted bests at the same meets as she timed a personal best 4k at the BHSU meet at the beginning of the season (14:52.8) before, like Tim, posting a personal best at the NCAA DII South Central Regional meet (21:19.3) to land a 22
nd place finish and All-Region honors.
