Black Hills State Athletics play-by-play radio voice Steve Ammerman, with Riverfront Broadcasting Black Hills, was honored as the recipient of the "2023 Sports Broadcaster of the Year" by the South Dakota Broadcasters Association (SDBA) at their annual state leadership conference held in Sioux Falls, August 29 and 30.
The SDBA Sports Broadcaster of the Year is awarded to a South Dakota Broadcaster who has made significant contributions to the field of sports broadcasting as well as an impact on their community.
"I'm truly honored to be the recipient of this first-time award from the South Dakota Broadcasters Association," said Steve Ammerman. "It was total surprise and most importantly I was able to celebrate with my entire family, friends and co-workers."
Ammerman is known by his peers and listeners as one of the regions premiere play-by-play talents. From Winner to Mitchell and now the Black Hills, Ammerman has been a fan favorite for 30 years.
Steve has broadcast thousands of high school sporting events and also will be entering his 12th year as the play-byÂplay voice of the Black Hills State University Yellow Jackets. The Black Hills have been blessed with an incredible pool of student athletes, and Ammerman brings the entire region together by making the listening audience aware of their talents.
Ammerman was named 2022 SD Sportscaster of the Year by the National Sports Media Association. He and his wife Kimberly have two sons, Logan and Jack.
