YANKTON, S.D. – Black Hills State women's soccer moved past Mount Marty Sunday morning with a 5-0 victory.
The Yellow Jackets improve to 2-0 to start the season for the first time in program history, and finished the weekend outscoring their opponents 11-0.
"It was a great game, it was awesome to see the ladies score in the manner they did," said Head Coach
John Hutchison. "Some great team goals were created by moving the ball well. The weekend as a whole was a test of our resilience and adversity by playing back-to-back days.
BHSU saw five different scorers for the second straight day, with
Leah Day,
Jayda Hammer,
Samantha Turpen,
Kayla Osegueda and
Lexi Crow each with a goal.
Between the pipes,
Makayla Dannelly notched her second straight shutout, grabbing four saves on the day.
Hailey Warren tallied two assists and a shot on goal while

Osegueda had an assist as well to go with her goal, and

BHSU's offense picked up right where they left off yesterday, scoring two goals in the first 14 minutes to get out to an early 2-0 lead.
Day opened the scoring with a goal in the 12th minute, before Hammer found net 90 seconds later, booting in a pass from
Hailey Warren.
BHSU continued to apply pressure, and minutes later, Turpen checked in with her first goal of the year, once again assisted by Warren, to extend the lead to 3-0, 20 minutes into the match.
Mount Marty put up a pair of shots on goal over the first 25 minutes, but neither would get past Dannelly in the net.
Osegueda scored her second goal of the season, assisted by
Katy Vinton, to stretch to a 4-0 Yellow Jacket lead in the 30th minute. Osegueda would then register an assist three minutes later, finding
Lexi Crow who buried the ball into the net in the 33rd minute, and BHSU took a 5-0 lead into the half.
Out of the locker room, the Yellow Jackets continued to hold Mount Marty scoreless the rest of the way, surrendering just one shot over the final 45 minutes.
Offensively BHSU wouldn't add-on in the second half, but continued creating chances for themselves with seven more shots and six on goal the rest of the way as they went on to win 5-0.
