SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University women's soccer team gave their six seniors a senior day to remember of Friday night at the Black Hills Power Sports Complex, recording their program's largest margin of victory in an RMAC contest with a 5-0 win over New Mexico Highlands. Along with the largest margin of victory came the first time in school history that a pair of teammates found the back of the net multiple times in the same game as Paige Hill and Anacel Valenzuela-Acosta each scored twice in front of the second largest home crowd in BHSU history.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first goal of the night for Black Hills State occurred in the 19th minute as Paige Hill tracked down the ball on a misplaced pass from a New Mexico Highlands defender to the goalkeeper, dribbling around the keeper before placing the ball into the wide-open net for the 1-0 lead.
  • Makayla Dannelly made both of her saves in the opening 45 minutes of action, snagging shot attempts in the 25th and 39th minutes to keep the Cowgirls off the scoreboard.
  • As the clock ticked down within the closing minutes of the first half, Anacel Valenzuela-Acosta received a perfectly placed cross pass from Katy Vinton and sent the ball off the right post and into the net for a 2-0 lead in the 44th minute.
  • Within a span of two minutes the Yellow Jackets doubled their lead in the opening stages of the second half. It started when Valenzuela-Acosta caught up to a pass from Hill and proceeded to fire a shot over the head of Peyton Greener and into the net from approximately 40 yards out to push the lead to 3-0 in the 54th minute. Then Hill received a cross pass from Makayla Selensky that led to a header into the right side of the night in the 56th minute to extend the lead to 4-0.
  • The final goal of the night for BHSU occurred in the 68th minute when Leah Day received a touch pass from Bailey Smith and proceeded to pop it up over the heads of the defenders for Katy Vinton. Vinton then snuck it past the charging Greener and into the left corner of the net for a 5-0 advantage.
  • Allanah Facio kept the shutout alive in the 79th minute as she made her lone save of the match.
  • Black Hills State held the advantage in shots (12-7), shots on goal (5-3), and saves (3-0), while New Mexico Highlands held the edge in corner kicks (4-2).
