HOW IT HAPPENED
- It was a fast and furious start for Black Hills State as the Yellow Jackets found the back of the net twice within the first minute and a half of game time. They took the 1-0 lead in the second minute of playing time when a throw in by Paige Hill was chested by Anacel Valenzuela-Acosta to Zoe Evans, who then found the back of the net for her first career goal. Then just 24 seconds later after the Adams State kick-off, Katy Vinton played a long pass forward to lead Hill around Lianna Albert, who was moved up towards the top of the box, and she then proceed to fire the ball into the open right corner of the net for the 2-0 lead.
- Following the quick start for BHSU, the Grizzlies put their first goal up on the scoreboard in the third minute. Just 35 seconds following the prior Yellow Jacket goal, Grace Abbott sent a pass into the box that bounced past a Black Hills State defender before Madeline Everett found the top right corner of the net to cut the lead to 2-1.
- Black Hills State tacked on another goal prior to the end of the first half as the ball was knocked around between multiple Yellow Jacket and Grizzly players before it ultimately ended up at the feet of Jayda Hammer who had an open look at the net from approximately 25-yards out and fired the ball into the left corner to push the lead to 3-1 in the 41st minute.
- Adams State had yet another quick response when in the 42nd minute when during a scramble in front of the net, Cassandra Jaramillo sent a touch pass back to Karlee Caballero who found the top left corner of the net to cut the lead to 3-2.
- Prior to leaving the match in the 49th minute, Allanah Facio made three saves in her first collegiate start in goal for the Yellow Jackets on Sunday, and then Zoe Wiggall entered in reserve to close out the second half by keeping the Grizzlies off the scoreboard in the period while making four saves.
- The Yellow Jackets scored the lone goal of the second half in the 57th minute when Evans scored her second goal of the match with a header into the top left corner of the net off a corner kick from Bria Sargent to make it a 4-2 contest.
