GREENWOOD, Ind. – The College Sports Communicators (CSC) announced the 2025 Academic All-District® recipients for the sport of women's soccer on Tuesday afternoon, with Black Hills State University having the maximum of six honored for the second consecutive year. Representing the Yellow Jackets are
Rylee Barnes,
Bailey Smith,
Whitney Hansen,
Ainsley Wilson,
Katy Vinton, and
Lena Homan. Additionally, all six of the BHSU student-athletes have been selected to as finalists and will be represented on the CSC Academic All-America ® ballot, which will be voted on by CSC members. The 2025 First-, Second-, and Third-Team CSC Academic All-America® honorees will be announced December 16, 2025.
Barnes earns her second CSC Academic All-District® selection as a senior defender from Kalispell, Montana. She appeared in 17 matches while making six starts on one of the strongest defensive back lines in program history. She saw action on the field in four of the five school record shutouts, and in 11 of the 12 matches that opponents were limited to zero or one goal. The defense also posted single season lows for goals (25), shots (200), and shots on goal (103) by the opposition. In the classroom she has posted a 4.00 cumulative GPA while pursuing a degree in elementary education.
Smith earns her first CSC Academic All-District® selection as a sophomore midfielder from Baldwin City, Kansas. She appeared in all 18 matches while making 16 starts in 2025. One of the four team captains, she helped guide the team to a school record four wins this past season. In the midfield she helped the Yellow Jackets control the attack and limit their opponents to a school record season low in goals (25), shots (200), and shots on goal (103), and was a part of a school record five shutouts. The BHSU defense also held opponents to zero or one goals in 12 matches, the most such games in program history. Offensively, she helped the Green & Gold tally the most shots (256) and shots on goal (99) and assisted on the goal that gave the Yellow Jackets the single season points record (52) in the finale at Regis. In the classroom she has posted a 4.00 cumulative GPA while pursuing degrees in biology, chemistry, and social/cultural awareness.
Hansen earns her second CSC Academic All-District® selection as a senior midfielder from Lander, Wyoming, as she was one of four Yellow Jackets to start all 18 matches. One of four team captains, she played a key role both offensively and defensively for Black Hills State. On offense she contributed three points towards a school record 52 points in 2025, scoring the game-winning goal against Dakota State to give BHSU their first-ever home opening win and then she assisted on the goal in the finale against Regis to help surpass last year's team point total. Additionally on the offense she helped facilitate the school record 256 shots and 99 shots on goal. Defensively she helped the Green & Gold to five shutouts and 12 matches in which opponents were held to zero or one goals, and limited opponents to just 25 goals, 200 shots, and 103 shots on goal, the lowest marks by the opposition in a season in program history. In the classroom she has posted a 4.00 cumulative GPA while pursuing a degree in biology.
Wilson, who is now a 2-time First Team Academic All-RMAC and CSC Academic All-District® honoree, has left her mark on the program academically and on the field as a defender. In 2025 the Loveland, Colorado, native spearheaded the defensive back line, playing all but nine minutes this season as she tallied a team-best 1,611 minutes and was one of four Yellow Jackets to start all 18 contests. This year the Green & Gold posted a school record five shutouts, and limited opponents to zero or one goal in 12 matches, the most such games in program history. Additionally, the defense limited opponents to 25 goals, 200 shots, and 103 shots on goal, the lowest season total by opponents in program history. Wilson recorded her first career goal this season in a home match against CSU Pueblo, moving forward into the offensive attack zone on a corner kick to find the back of the net as she was one of eight first time goal scorers for the Yellow Jackets this season. In the classroom she has posted a 3.99 cumulative GPA while pursuing a degree in biology and chemistry.
Vinton earns her first CSC Academic All-District® selection as a redshirt senior defender from North Pole, Alaska. A team captain, she was one of the four Yellow Jackets to start all 18 matches this season. While making the switch from forward to the back line of defense in the offseason, she helped BHSU post the top defensive season in program history, surrendering the lowest number of goals (25), shots (200), and shots on goal (103), by opponents. Additionally, the Green & Gold's defense broke the school record for shutouts with five and limited opposing offenses to zero or one goal in 12 matches, the most such games in program history. Despite switching over to defense, she still found her way into the offensive attack, notching 16 shot attempts with five on target, including finding the back of the net in the season finale at Regis to bring herself into the top-5 in school history in career goals (5) and points (15). In the classroom she has posted a 3.72 cumulative GPA while pursuing degrees in biology and graphic design.
Homan earns her first CSC Academic All-District® selection as a redshirt senior midfielder from Omaha, Nebraska. She played in all 18 matches during her final year in the Green & Gold, making three starts during the year. Offensively she assisted on one goal during the season, passing to the game-winning goal against Montana State Billings to give BHSU their first win in program history over the school from Montana and their first-ever 2-0 start at home. Additionally, she helped the offensive attack tally a school record 256 shots, 99 shots on goal, and 52 points. Defensively, she helped BHSU limit their opponents to a single season low of 25 goals, 200 shots, and 103 shots on goal, while the team also broke the school record in shutouts (5) and helped their opposition to zero or one goal in 12 matches. In the classroom she has posted a 3.57 cumulative GPA while pursuing a degree in exercise science.
School's athletic communication staffs are allowed to nominate up to six student-athletes for a spot on the CSC Academic All-District® list. To be eligible individuals must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically while maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.50 in their academic career and compete in 90 percent of the institution's matches played or must start in at least 66 percent of the institution's matches.
