Black Hills State Shines at Jack Christiansen Invite

Yellow Jackets post 16 top-5 finishes in their third outdoor meet

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Black Hills State University track and field teams continued their outdoor season for the third-straight week in the state of Colorado with 16 top-5 finishes at the Jack Christiansen Invite, hosted by Colorado State University. Four Yellow Jacket men's 800-meter runners finished in the top-5 with a pair of sub-two minutes times.
 
Jace Johnson (Fr., Rapid City, S.D.) took an eighth-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.17.
 
In the 800-meter run, Aydan Loya (Fr., Torrington, Wyo.) led the Yellow Jackets with his second-place finish with a time of 1:58.02. Coming in less than a second behind Loya for third-place was Levi Smith (Jr., Cheyenne, Wyo.) with a time of 1:58.87. A pair of Yellow Jackets would also place third- and fourth-place with times just over two minutes.
 
Sully Mack (Gr., Watertown, S.D.) had three top-10 finishes in field events for Black Hills State, highlighted by his second-place finish in the javelin (53.72m). He also took a sixth-place finish in the hammer (51.24m) and seventh in the discus (46.82m).
 
On the women's side, Ceegan Atkins (Fr., Hanover, Kan.) led BHSU with her fourth-place finish with a time of 14.99 seconds. She was followed by Sophie Curtis (Sr., Bettendorf, Iowa) who took a sixth-place finish with a time of 15.57. Kendall Tietjen (So., Clearmont, Wyo.), also competed in the 400-meter hurdles, taking a sixth-place finish with a time of 1:05.35.
 
The 800-meter run saw Katelyn Krieger (Fr., Spirit Lake, Iowa) top six Division I athletes for second-place with a time of 2:22.59. Additionally, Alexis Weiers (Fr., Morgan, Utah) took a fourth-place finish with a time of 2:28.55.
 
In the women's field events, Hanah Sullivan (So., Sheridan, Wyo.) posted a second-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 13.24 meters. In the Javelin, Kitrie Frank (Jr., Red Lodge, Mont.) tool a fourth-place finish with a 36.28-meter mark, while Alivia Weathers (So., Yuma, Colo.) finished seventh with a throw of 35.41 meters.

Up Next: The Yellow Jackets will travel to Vermillion next weekend to compete at the University of South Dakota (USD) Early Bird Invite on April 5-6 at the Lillibridge Track Complex.
