SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University women's soccer team fell in their home opener on Wednesday afternoon as they dropped a 5-0 decision to Montana State Billings at the Black Hills Power Sports Complex. MSUB's offensive attack was relentless early on as they scored three goals in the first 25 minutes of playing time to gain control of the match before they added another pair of goals in the second half to close out the contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Montana State Billings offense struck early and often to gain momentum in Wednesday afternoon's non-conference match-up as they scored three goals within the first 25 minutes of action, scoring on an own goal in the seventh minute, followed by Erika Wilson finding Jackie Sharpe for a goal from the right side of the box in the 15^th minute, and Liberty Palmer found the back of the net on a penalty kick in the 23^rd minute.
• Black Hills State tallied a pair of shot attempts that landed on target in the first half as Chloe Lonneman fired a shot towards the left side of the net in the 20^th minute off a touch pass from Bria Sargent and then in the 42^nd minute Paige Hill raced down the left side of the field and once she entered the box she fired a shot towards the top left corner only for it to be snagged by Claire Brogdon of MSUB.
• BHSU only recorded two more shots-on-goal in the second half which occurred early in the half. The first attempt came as Katy Vinton battled through a pair of defenders in order to get a shot off, which rolled into the hands of the goalkeeper. Then a mere 30 seconds after her first shot attempt of the day went just wide left, Hailey Warren got off another attempt which went on target and was snagged by Brogdon in goal.
• The Green & Gold notched a pair of corner kick attempts in the second half, the first in the 62^nd minute, caused a frantic scramble in front of the goal and saw Zoe Evans place a shot towards the net but had a defender step in front and deflect the ball away. The Yellow Jacket's second attempt was then knocked down in front of the net before Montana State Billings was able to clear the ball in the 75^th minute.
• The visiting Yellowjackets tacked on two more goals in the second half to make it a 5-0 contest, starting with a second goal from Palmer as she found an opening inside the right post off a pass on a corner kick from Ava Curtright in the 62^nd minute. Montana State Billings then added a goal in the 75^th minute when Maddie Smith had to fight off a defender and found the right side of the net.
• Montana State Billings held the advantage in shots (23-12), shots-on-goal (10-4), and corner kicks (8-2) while Black Hills State held the edge in saves (6-4).
