Black Hills State Unable to Keep Pace with #20 Washburn

KEARNEY, Neb. – The Black Hills State defense could only hold off the relentless attack of No. 20 Washburn for so long on Friday morning, as it wasn't until midway through the first half that the Ichabods scored to build towards their 6-0 victory in the first game of the Nebraska-Kearney Soccer Invite. After 25 minutes of scoreless action to open the contest, WU scored a pair of goals to take a halftime lead and then scored four times in the second half as they maintained the flow of the game throughout match-up.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Washburn offensive attack did not waste any time making Makayla Dannelly busy in goal as they tallied ten shots, four shots on target that resulted in saves for Dannelly, and four corner kicks within the first 25 minutes of action.
  • The Ichabods scored the first goal of the match in the 26th minute as Lakin Rold collected the ball after it was batted around on a corner kick attempt and found the left corner of the net. WU then found the back of the net once again in the closing minutes of the first half as a touch pass by Kylie Hinrichs led to a Presslee Amick goal from ten yards out in the 41st minute for a 2-0 halftime lead.
  • Dannelly made four more saves in the first 15 minutes of action in the second half before Khloe Schuckman found Mackinly Rohn on a cross pass in front of the net for WU's third goal of the day. Then in the 70th minute Ana Muruzabel fought through defenders before firing a shot from ten yards out into the back of the net to make it a 4-0 match.
  • In the 73rd minute Black Hills State notched their first shot attempt of the game when Jayda Hammer fought off a defender for the ball in the corner of the field before firing a low, bouncing shot on target from the left side of the box.
  • Tea Whitlock added the Yellow Jackets second shot attempt of the morning in the 86th minute when she grabbed possession of the ball towards midfield and fired a shot that rolled towards the goalkeeper from 40 yards out.
  • Washburn added a pair of goals in the closing minutes as Sam Searcey found Amick in the box, who then fired a shot from the right side into the left corner of the net in the 87th minute. Then in the 88th minute Hunter McWiliams found the ball off a deflection on a corner kick and placed the ball into the left side of the net from eight yards out.
