HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a corner kick and a shot on target in the opening minutes of play, Nebraska-Kearney was able to strike first in the 15th minute when Hanna Schmimmer dribbled through the defense and fired a shot into the top right corner of the net from 20 yards out on the left side of the box to make it a 1-0 game.
- On Black Hills State's first shot on target of the match-up they found the back of the net for the first time in the 2024 season. After Anacel Valenzuela-Acosta had the ball deflected away by Susie Bovaird, Paige Hill was right behind her to collect the ball off the deflection and placed it into the top left corner of the net from 25 yards out from the right side of the field to even the match at one apiece in the 34th minute.
- Makayla Dannelly collected three saves in the first 15 minutes of second half action, however Schimmer and the Lopers found the back of the net a second time, this time by way of a penalty kick in the 66th minute. UNK received the PK by way of a BHSU handball in the box, and Schimmer placed the ball into the bottom right corner of the net for a 2-1 advantage.
- The Yellow Jackets refused to be denied as they tallied their second goal on just their second shot on target of the contest when Hill's throw in off a flip got just enough air off a bounce to go over a defender and find Valenzuela-Acosta right in front of the box to head the ball in past Bovaird in goal to even the game at two in the 79th minute.
- Minutes later Hill had the final shot on target for either team when she had a breakaway opportunity that drew Bovaird out of the box and deflected the ball out of bounds for a Yellow Jacket corner kick in the 83rd minute.
- Nebraska-Kearney held the advantage in shots (15-6), shots on goal (7-3), and corner kicks (8-1) while Black Hills State held the edge in saves (5-1).
