HOW IT HAPPENED
- Colorado Christian struck first early in the contest when Justine Moreau stole away a pass from a Black Hills State defender, opening up a breakaway opportunity in which she passed the ball of Noelle Mingo who placed the ball into the left corner of the net from five yards out in the seventh minute for the 1-0 lead.
- The Yellow Jacket's first shot on target of the game came in the 20th minute when Hailey Warren fought off a defender and fired a shot from 20 yards out in the center of the field, however, the ball was corralled by Alana Lopp in goal.
- Early in the first half BHSU had to fend off four corner kicks but kept CCU off the scoreboard a second time before the break.
- Black Hills State drew even in the match in the 34th minute when Jayda Hammer grabbed the ball away from a Cougar defender and placed the ball into the left corner of the net in a one-on-one opportunity with her and the goalkeeper.
- Despite opportunities such as a breakaway shot by Paige Hill that went just wide left of the goal in the 62nd minute and a corner kick set that resulted in a header by Whitney Hansen to the right of the goal, the Yellow Jackets only posted one shot on target in the second half.
- Colorado Christian found the back of the net for the game winning goal in the 88th minute when Ava Dinverno's initial corner kick was knocked down by Makayla Dannelly, and then Moreau fired a shot attempt that went just over the outstretched hands of the BHSU goalkeeper into the top left corner of the goal.
- The lone shot on goal in the second half for BHSU came in one final attempt to tie the game at two in the 90th minute when Hailey Warren fired a shot from 25 yards out but into the hands of Lopp.
- Colorado Christian held the advantage in shots (19-11), shots on goal (9-4), and corner kicks (8-3) while Black Hills State held the edge in saves (7-3).Â
