HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Black Hills State jumped out to an early 3-1 advantage in set one after a kill by Brooke Miller, however Regis responded with a 6-2 scoring run to grab a 7-5 lead. The Yellow Jackets kept the frame going back-and-forth as five of the next eight BHSU points came by way of a Miller kill as the Green & Gold took a 13-12 lead at the midway point. A 9-6 Ranger run saw Regis take a 21-19 lead late, however Black Hills State closed out the opening set with a 6-2 run that saw the Yellow Jackets win set point on a successful challenge to claim the 25-23 win.
  • Following an early 4-1 Regis lead, Black Hills State battled back and evened the score at four apiece following a pair of kills and a block by Emily Freeland and Jaeda Davis-Golliher. The Rangers would steal all momentum from that point forward however, as a 10-1 scoring run gave RU a 14-5 lead and the largest lead of the match up to that point by either team. Regis extended their lead to as many as 12 (22-10) points late in the frame before a 5-1 rally by BHSU gave the Yellow Jackets a late momentum boost. The Rangers would then take three of the last four points to secure a 25-15 set win and even the match a 1-1.
  • After back-to-back kills by Freeland to give Black Hills State a 2-0 lead to open set three, Regis responded with an 8-2 scoring run to take a four-point advantage (8-4), their largest of the frame. A kill by Miller sparked a commanding 11-4 Yellow Jacket run to see the Green & Gold take a 15-12 lead following a kill by Mianna Cardenas. The Rangers kept the back-and-forth action going as they regained the lead with five consecutive points, but it wouldn't be the last time as the lead changed hands five more times leading up to the end of the frame as RU took six of the last nine points for a 26-24 win and a 2-1 match lead.
  • Black Hills State and Regis traded the first five points of the fourth set prior to the Rangers scoring five unanswered to take a 7-3 lead. The Yellow Jackets remained within striking distance as a RU service error made it a 13-9 score, however Regis used a 9-1 scoring run to take control with a 22-10 lead. BHSU saw a late spark with a 5-1 run with a pair of kills by Abigail Renner and one by both Miller and Davis-Golliher. Regis took the final two points of the set to win 25-15 and win the match 3-1.
  • Black Hills State held the advantage in kills (53-52), assists (48-47), and digs (84-77), while Regis held the edge in points (73.0-59.0), aces (10-3), and blocks (11-3).
