BILLINGS, Mont. – Neither team was able to find the back of the net in Thursday afternoon's season opener in the Rimrock Classic as Black Hills State University and Carroll College battled to a 0-0 tie. The defensive affair resulted in the second consecutive season-opening shutout for BHSU and was the sixth career clean sheet for goalkeeper

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Black Hills State was forced to fend off a pair of Carroll scoring threats early in the contest as the Saints received a pair of corner kick opportunities in the first ten minutes of action. The first which occurred in the fourth minute went wide and resulted in a goal kick, while the second was corralled by Makayla Dannelly after being headed around inside the box in the seventh minute.
- CC's lone two shots-on-goal also occurred within the first 20 minutes of play, as Dannelly made a save in the 11th minute when she stopped a shot that went towards the bottom left corner of the net by Deanna Lord. Then in the 18th minute she snagged a shot off the bounce that was fired toward the center of net by Courtnie Gagnon from the top right side of the box.
- The first scoring opportunity of the game for the Yellow Jackets came in the 20th minute when Katy Vinton fought off a defender in the right side of the box to fire a shot that rolled towards the center of the net before being picked up by Maria Ackerman in goal for the Saints.
- Hailey Warren in the 24th minute and Paige Hill in the 37th minute each added shot attempts that went off target in the first half while Carroll tallied three more shot attempts of their own which went off target.
- The Saints continued to be aggressive on offense throughout the second half as they collected their third corner kick attempt of the contest in the 54th minute and saw a pair of shot attempts go off target in the 63rd and 64th minutes. Then mid-way through the half the Yellow Jacket defense had fend off another pair of Carroll shots in the 73rd and 81st minutes, along with a fourth corner kick attempt in the 82nd minute that was immediately knocked down by Dannelly.
- The lone shot attempt of the second half for Black Hills State occurred in the 85th minute when Warren weaved through defenders in the box before sending a low roller towards the center of the net which was collected by Ackerman.
- Carroll held the advantage in shots (9-2) and corner kicks (4-0) while the teams were even in shots-on-goal (2-2) and saves (2-2).Â
