HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Black Hills State's first scoring opportunity of the game occurred in the 11th minute as Chloe Lonneman's first shot was deflected by a defender and cleared out of the box by UMary where it was then collected by Whitney Hansen. Hansen then fired a shot on target from 30 yards out that was snagged by Molly Fischer in goal.
  • The Yellow Jackets continued their early offensive attack in the 14th minute as Hailey Warren directed a cross pass from the right corner towards the net, however it turned into the second save of the day for Fischer.
  • Momentum then began to shift during the next ten minutes of action as the Marauders tallied a pair of corner kicks and shots (one shot-on-goal), leading up to the first goal of the match. In the 24th minute, UMary's Kira Hockley received a pass from Rachel Gensch and proceeded to fire a shot from 30 yards out that found the top left corner of the net for a 1-0 advantage.
  • BHSU goalkeeper, Makayla Dannelly, made two more saves in the final seven minutes of the first half as the score remained 1-0 at the break.
  • Within the first six minutes of the second half, UMary recorded three corner kicks and one shot attempt leading up to their second goal of the game when Allison Lepp headed in a corner kick from Rio Spruenken in the 51st minute to take a 2-0 lead.
  • After receiving two corner kicks in the first half, Black Hills State received their lone corner kick attempt of the second half in the 62nd minute but the Marauders defended the ball well and quickly pushed the Yellow Jacket attack out of the box. Shortly after the corner kick in the 65th minute, Makaiah Carlson dribbled the ball around a UMary defender and found an opening for a shot on target from just outside the top of the box, however Fischer was able to make the save.
  • The Marauders found the back of the net one final time in the 69th minute when Gensch tracked down the ball in the open field and fired a deep shot from 40 yards out and over the outstretched hands of Dannelly.
  • The Yellow Jackets final shot on target in the contest occurred in the 70th minute as Jayda Hammer outran the UMary defenders and had a one-on-one look at the net with the goalkeeper, however the Fischer was able to get a hand on the ball to deflect it away.
  • The UMary offensive attack continued to keep Dannelly busy the remainder of the contest as she made four more saves in the final 20 minutes of action.
  • UMary held the advantage in shots (18-7), shots-on-goal (10-4), and corner kicks (8-3) while Black Hills State held the edge in saves (7-4).
