SPEARFISH, S.D.- The Black Hills State Yellow Jackets were unable to get the win over Adams State despite taking the first set of the match. They fall to the Grizzlies 3-1 in four sets in A2 Arena in the first game of the two-game home stand for the Yellow Jackets. BHSU was able to get some good defensive performances tonight with
Ellie Thomas getting 18 digs and the team combining for nine blocks.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Adams State started the match with a 5-2 lead early and kept that lead at 8-4 before BHSU started coming back. The Yellow Jackets were able to tie the game at 11 after a 4-0 run by the Green and Gold with kills by McLeod, Mettler, and a block. One point later and BHSU went on another 4-0 run to make it 15-12 with three attack errors. Adams State won two in a row to make it 15-14 before BHSU won three in a row to bring it to 18-14. After the Grizzlies won back-to-back points to cut it to 18-16, BHSU won four of the next five to make it 22-17. ASU won four of the next six points before Carsyn Mettler ended the set with a kill to win the set 25-21.
- Adams started the second set with another 5-2 lead before the Jackets cut it to 5-4. After that it was all ASU with the Grizzlies winning ten of the next 14 points to take a 15-8 lead in the set. After splitting the next seven points, both teams had 3-0 runs to make it 21-15 before Adams won the next four points to win the set 25-15 and even up the match.
- The Grizzlies once again got out early this time on a 12-4 run to start the third set and BHSU could never close the gap. Each team kept swapping points which made the score 16-10 before Adams went on a 5-2 run to get it to 21-12. The Green and Gold got back-to-back blocks before ASU won four straight to win 25-14 and take a 2-1 lead in the game.
- For the fourth straight set, Adams got out to the early lead with an 8-4 run. BHSU fought back, winning six of the next seven with four kills. Adams won six of the next eight with three straight kills by star attacker Hadleigh Richardson to make it 15-12. The Yellow Jackets won five of the next eight to keep the gap within one and then split the next four to get the score to 20-19 before Adams won five straight points and ended the match on two straight service aces to bring the total aces to 14. ASU would win the match 3-1 and take the final set 25-19.
