Yellow Jackets and Roadrunners Play to 1-1 Draw

SPEARFISH, S.D. – For the second consecutive outing the Black Hills State University women's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw at the Black Hills Power Sports Complex as they hosted MSU Denver on Sunday, which saw the Yellow Jackets snap a 9-game losing streak in the series with the Roadrunners. The Green & Gold controlled the offensive attack throughout the duration of the contest, holding a 23-6 advantage in shots, allowing them to snag the momentum early with a goal by Aubri Roth in the 13th minute. HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Following four shot attempts, including one on target by Kylie Hayes, in the first 11 minutes of action, the Yellow Jackets struck first in the 13th minute. Lawsen Quist regained control of the ball for BHSU after it was deflected out of the box by a Roadrunner defender, and she then found Aubri Roth with open space in the 6-yard box as she proceeded to place the ball in the right-side of the net to make it a 1-0 contest.
  • The remainder of the first half saw each team only tally one shot on goal the remaining 32 minutes of action as Kailani Nuhn recorded a shot on frame that was saved by Karsyn Fraser-Slothower in the 27th minute, and Jayda Hammer placed a shot towards the center of the net that was saved by Kayla Caballero in the 35th minute as BHSU held a 1-0 lead at the break.
  • Black Hills State continued to keep the pressure on with the offensive attack, recording the first eight shot attempts of the second half, however, a quick counterattack for MSU Denver as Madrid Mack moved the ball forward to Meg Gonzalez, and she then found Isa Durkin cutting into the 6-yard box for a shot into the back of the net to even the game at one in the 72nd minute.
  • The final ten minutes provided numerous scoring opportunities for BHSU as Peyton Hill found an opening in the box to place a shot towards the center of the goal in the 80th minute, Roth sent a shot towards the right post in the 82nd minute, Katy Vinton fired a shot towards the right post in the 84th minute, and Quist narrowly missed putting the ball into the top-right corner of the net in the 88th minute on a free kick as it was punched away on a leaping effort by Caballero.
