Yellow Jackets Continue Fall Action at Mystic Stampede

SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University men's and women's rodeo team is set for their fifth rodeo of the fall as they continue action in North Dakota at the Mystic Stampede hosted by Bismarck State College. The Yellow Jackets enter the weekend as the No. 9 women's team in the nation, with a pair of cowgirls ranked within the top-15 nationally in barrel racing, as they seek their first team title of the 2025-26 season.

BLACK HILLS STATE MEN'S RODEO STORYLINES
  • The Black Hills State men's rodeo team enters their fifth rodeo of the season ranked No. 9 in the Great Plains Region with 210.0 points this year.
  • The pair of Luke Mavity and Mickey Strawn are tied for No. 13 in the Great Plains Region in tie down roping, each currently owning 80.0 points on the season. Mavity earned a fifth place finish in the event at the Falcon Frontier Days Rodeo (25.7), while Strawn was third at the Mid-Plains Community College Stampede Rodeo #2 (22.1).
  • Markus Ailie ranks tied for No. 24 in the NIRA steer wrestling rankings and is No. 6 in the Great Plains Region, having finished fifth at the Falcon Frontier Days Rodeo with an overall time of 27.9 seconds to amass 40.0 points in the season opening rodeo.
  • Glen Lammers is in his 18th season as the head coach of the Yellow Jacket men's and women's rodeo program. 
#9 BLACK HILLS STATE WOMEN'S RODEO STORYLINES
  • The Black Hills State University women's rodeo team enters their fifth rodeo of the year ranked No. 9 in the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA) rankings and is No. 2 in the Great Plains Region with 806.0 points this year.
  • The Yellow Jackets have finished top-3 as a team in three different rodeos this year, finishing second at the Falcon Frontier Days Rodeo and the Mid-Plains Community College Stampede Rodeo #1, and was third at the Blue Hawk Stampede last weekend.
  • The Green & Gold have once again dominated the barrel racing scene in the Great Plains Region, with five of the top-15 cowgirls in the region.
  • Jayda Reinert currently sits No. 2 in the nation in barrel racing and is a top of the Great Plains Region standings with 455.0 points through four rodeos. She has claimed three barrel racing titles this season already, winning the Falcon Frontier Days Rodeo (32.11), Mid-Plains Community College Stampede Rodeo #1 (18.05 – 1 Go), and the Blue Hawk Stampede (35.07).
  • Sierra Steele currently ranks No. 15 in the nation and No. 3 in the Great Plains Region in barrel racing, totaling 233.0 points. She has posted a pair of top-5 finishes this year with a second place finish at the Mid-Plains Community College Stampede Rodeo #2 (36.28) and a fourth place finish at the Mid-Plains Community College Stampede Rodeo #1 (18.32 – 1 Go)
  • Others in the top-15 within the Great Plains Region in barrel racing include Adeline Norstegaard who is ninth with 119.0 points, Kiera Mavity who is 13th with 90.0 points, and Molly Gilbert who is 14th with 75.0 points. Norstegaard has notched a pair of top-6 finishes this year, finishing fifth at the Mid-Plains Community College Stampede Rodeo #1 (18.33 – 1 Go) and sixth place at the Blue Hawk Stampede (40.20), while Gilbert added a fourth place finish at the Falcon Frontier Days Rodeo (33.08) and Mavity collected a third place tie at the Blue Hawk Stampede (35.47).
  • The pair of Emma Ohm and Paige Delaney are currently ranked ninth and 15th in the Great Plains Region in breakaway roping, totaling 120.0 and 70.0 points respectively thus far on the year. Ohm has posted a sixth place finish at the Mid-Plains Community College Stampede Rodeo #1 (3.1 – 1 Go) and Mid-Plains Community College Stampede Rodeo #2 (8.0). Delaney has added a pair of top-10 finishes, recording a fifth place finish at the Blue Hawk Stampede (6.5) and an eighth place finish in the Mid-Plains Community College Stampede Rodeo #2 (2.9 – 1 Go).
  • Haley Husted and Mavity lead the way for the Yellow Jackets in goat tying, as they are two of five ranked within the top-15 of the Great Plains Region. Husted is No. 5 in the region with 186.0 points, as she has earned a third place finish at the Mid-Plains Community College Stampede Rodeo #1 (7.4 – 1 Go) and was sixth place at the Falcon Frontier Days Rodeo (15.5). Mavity is sixth in the region with 170.0 points and has one the event title this year, claiming first place at the Blue Hawk Stampede (12.9) and added a seventh place finish at the Mid-Plains Community College Stampede Rodeo #2 (16.0).
  • Raylee Fagerhaug also sits top-10 in the Great Plains Region in goat tying, tallying 135.0 points to rank ninth. She has recorded a pair of top-5 finishes this year with a fourth place finish at the Blue Hawk Stampede (14.5) and a fifth place finish at the Mid-Plains Community College Stampede Rodeo #2 (15.5).
  • Rounding out the group of five in goat tying is Linley Schmitz who is No. 12 in the Great Plains Region with 80.0 points, and Kate Weborg who is No. 14 in the region with 50.0 points. Schmitz began the year with a fifth place finish at the Falcon Frontier Days Rodeo (15.1), while Weborg was sixth at the Mid-Plains Community College Stampede Rodeo #1 (8.1 – 1 Go).
