Double Rodeo on Tap for Yellow Jackets at Mid-Plains Community College Stampede

SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University men's and women's rodeo teams will look to improve upon a seventh and second place finish last week as they are set for a double rodeo at the Mid-Plains Community College Stampede Thursday, September 11, through Saturday, September 13. The Yellow Jacket cowgirls swept the team titles in last year's event and look to find their way back atop the standings for the first time in the fall slate.

BLACK HILLS STATE MEN'S RODEO STORYLINES
  • The Black Hills State men's rodeo team enters the second rodeo of the season ranked No. 7 in the Great Plains Region after earning 120.0 points in the season opener at the Falcon Frontier Days Rodeo last weekend.
  • Luke Mavity ranks tied for No. 18 nationally in the NIRA tie down roping rankings and is tied for No. 3 in the region, having accumulated 80.0 points during the first weekend of the season after a fifth place finish and overall time of 25.7 seconds.
  • Markus Ailie ranks tied for No. 24 nationally in the NIRA steer wrestling rankings and is No. 6 in the Great Plains Region, having finished fifth at the Falcon Frontier Days Rodeo with an overall time of 27.9 seconds to amass 40.0 points in the season opening rodeo.
  • Glen Lammers is in his 18th season as the head coach of the Yellow Jacket men's and women's rodeo program. 
#13 BLACK HILLS STATE WOMEN'S RODEO STORYLINES
  • The Black Hills State University women's rodeo team enters their second rodeo of the year ranked No. 13 in the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA) rankings and is No. 2 in the Great Plains Region with 250.0 points this year.
  • The Yellow Jackets finished in second place in the season opening Falcon Frontier Days Rodeo in River Falls, Wisconsin, last weekend.
  • Jayda Reinert enters the second weekend of the season ranked as the No. 3 barrel racer in the country and is atop the regional regions after winning the Great Plains Regional opener in River Falls. She collected 170.0 points in the years first event after a winning overall time of 32.11 seconds.
  • Also in barrel racing, freshman Molly Gilbert enters the national rankings at No. 19 and is No. 5 in the region with 75.0 points from last weekend. She collected a fourth place finish in her collegiate debut with an overall time of 33.08 seconds at the Falcon Frontier Days Rodeo.
  • Linley Schmitz will enter this weekend's double rodeo tied in the national rankings for No. 18 in goat tying and is No. 5 within the Great Plains Region after finishing fifth with an overall time of 15.1 seconds last weekend for 80 points.
  • Looking to find her way back to Casper for the second year in a row, Haley Husted is currently ranked No. 23 in the national standings and is sixth in the region in goat tying, having earned 60.0 points in the season opener with a sixth place finish and overall time of 15.5 seconds.
  • Additionally, Husted enters the weekend ranked No. 6 in the Great Plains Region in breakaway roping, having notched a sixth place finish in River Falls for 20.0 points.
  • Glen Lammers is in his 18th season as the head coach of the Yellow Jacket men's and women's rodeo program.
