HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 1
• Leadoff hitter
Lily Simmons walked to start the game, she then stole second and was driven in by a double off the bat of
Tyler Whitlock. Despite an
Ashlynn Pauwels single, Whitlock was not able to get home leaving BHSU up 1-0.
Laci Peskey continued her dominance with a 1-2-3 inning with three strikeouts.
• The game blew open in the second when
Audrey Fouras and
Katelyn Jarzobski singled to lead off the inning.
Alyssa Wong would reach on an error and
Taylor Dowden would hit a bases clearing double to bring the score to 4-0. Whitlock would single in Dowden to make it 5-0 and Pauwels would hit BHSU's first home run of the season to make it 7-0 heading into the bottom half. Peskey ran into trouble in the bottom half when she allowed a leadoff single and hit two batters, to make it bases loaded with one out. She would get Ali Davis to ground into a fielder's choice that scored the runner on third before Peskey was able to get out of the jam only allowing the one run to make it 7-1.
• The Yellow Jackets dominated the third as well starting with a leadoff double from Fouras and Jarzobski hit a second double to score Fouras and make it 8-1. After a Wong flyout, Dowden hit her fifth RBI of the game with BHSU's second home run and it would be 10-1 BHSU. It wouldn't end there. Whitlock hit a two-out double and
Desi Hernandez hit a single to score her and make it 11-1 heading into the bottom half. Peskey went 1-2-3 and we headed to the fourth.
• Despite
Carli Maley and
Gracie Oswald reaching base, the Yellow Jackets were unable to get a run for the first time this game, however, Adams State would. The Grizzlies became the first team to figure out Peskey this season when they would hit a triple and a double back-to-back to begin the bottom of the fourth and make the score 11-2. Peskey would get the next two batters out before walking Ellie Heiser and allowing a bases-clearing double to Aubree Davis. Peskey was removed for the first time this season after allowing four runs and
Malaya Coleman would come in to finish off the inning with the Yellow Jackets up 11-4.
• No runs were scored by either team in the fifth inning despite Adams State getting three runners on base, and so we headed to the top of the sixth, where BHSU broke their streak of no runs in late innings, when Maley singled, Fouras doubled, and Wong hit a three-run home run to give BHSU the ability to win the game in six innings if no runs were scored in the bottom half, which they were not and BHSU beat Adams State 14-4
