SPEARFISH, S.D. – The rodeo scene begins to heat back up in the Great Plains Region as the spring season gets underway on Friday in Ames, Iowa, at the 62
nd Cyclone Stampede, helping pave the way to Casper, Wyoming, and the College National Finals Rodeo in June. The Yellow Jacket women enter the spring as the top team in the region and No. 9 nationally as they have taken the title in four of six fall rodeos and look to continue the momentum as the spring slate gets underway.

BLACK HILLS STATE MEN'S RODEO STORYLINES
- The Black Hills State men's rodeo team enters the spring as the No. 6 team in the NIRA Great Plains Region standings with 676 points in the fall. In the final rodeo of the fall, the Mystics Stampede Rodeo, the Yellow Jackets finished seventh with 90 team points. The highest team finish of the year thus far has been a fourth place team finish with 226 points at the Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo #1 in September.
- Luke Mavity enters the spring ranking No. 7 in the region in tie down roping with 235 points. So far this year he has posted a second place finish in the event at the Falcon Frontier Days Rodeo, a fifth place finish at the Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo #2, and a sixth place finish at the Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo #1.
- Mavity also ranks No. 14 the region as a team roping header, tallying 90 points this season. This year he has recorded a third place finish with Dawson Davis of Iowa Central at the Mystics Stampede Rodeo, was ninth at the Blue Hawk Stampede as he paired up with Landree Glass of Dickinson State University and was tenth at the Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo #2 as he again was paired up with Davis of ICCC.
- Jess Harper remains in the top-5 of the region in the team roping heeler standings, ranking No. 4 in the Great Plains Region in the event with 214 points. He's been a part of one team roping victory as he paired up with Colton Zubach of Dickinson State University at the Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo #2. Additionally, he paired up with Zubach for a fifth place finish at the Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo #1 and for a tenth place finish at the Mystics Stampede Rodeo.
- Glen Lammers is in his 17th season as the head coach of the Yellow Jacket men's and women's rodeo program.
#9 BLACK HILLS STATE WOMEN'S RODEO STORYLINES
- The Black Hills State women's rodeo team enters the spring as the No. 1 team in the Great Plains Region and No. 9 nationally in the most recent NIRA standings with 1,994.83 points.
- In six fall rodeos, the Yellow Jackets claimed team titles at the Falcon Frontier Days Rodeo, Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo #1, Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo #2, and the Triton Stampede. They also finished second at the Blue Hawk Stampede and the Mystics Stampede Rodeo.
- Cashae McGee ranks No. 1 in the Great Plains Region and is No. 8 nationally in the Women's All-Around standings with 830 points. She's earned a pair of all-around titles thus far in the season, occurring at the Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo #2 and the Mystics Stampede Rodeo. Additionally, Emma Ohm has earned one all-around title, which happened at the Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo #1.
- The Yellow Jackets have dominated the barrel racing scene in the Great Plains Region in 2024-25, with five student-athletes ranking within the top-15 of the region. McGee currently ranks No. 2 in the region, totaling 342 points so far this season. She's placed third at the Falcon Frontier Days Rodeo and the Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo #1, fourth at the Triton Stampede and the Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo #2, and fifth at the Mystics Stampede Rodeo.
- Sierra Steele has tallied 210 points in barrel racing this season, ranking No. 6 in the region after recording finishes of second place at the Falcon Frontier Days Rodeo and third at the Triton Stampede.
- Sitting just outside of the top-10 in the regional barrel racing standings is Jayda Reinert who currently sits No. 11 with 125 points after notching a fourth place finish at the Falcon Frontier Days Rodeo, a sixth place finish at the Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo #2, and a ninth place finish at the Mystics Stampede Rodeo.
- Ranking No. 13 in the barrel racing regional standings is Raylee Fagerhaug, totaling 100 points with a third place finish at the Mystics Stampede Rodeo to round out the fall season.
- Adeline Norstegaard rounds out the Yellow Jackets group of barrel racers ranked within the Great Plains Region, sitting No. 15 with 90 points from a fourth place finish at the Falcon Frontier Days Rodeo and a fifth place finish at the Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo #2.
- Ohm currently ranks No. 1 in the region in breakaway roping and is No. 4 nationally, totaling 475 points through six rodeos so far this season. She has recorded a pair of titles in the event with wins at the Falcon Frontier Days Rodeo and the Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo #1, while also adding a fifth place finish at the Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo #2, a seventh place finish at the Triton Stampede, and a ninth place finish at the Mystics Stampede Rodeo.
- Briley Anderson sits right outside of the region's top-10 in breakaway roping, ranking No. 11 with 111.5 points with a third place finish at the Falcon Frontier Days Rodeo, a ninth place finish at the Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo #1, a tenth place finish at the Mystics Stampede Rodeo, and an 11th place finish at the Triton Stampede.
- The BHSU cowgirls have also been dominant in goat tying during the 2024-25 season in the Great Plains Region, with seven student-athletes ranked within the top-15. Highlighting the Yellow Jackets in the event is McGee who not only ranks No. 1 in the region but is also No. 19 nationally as she has totaled 488 points. She has earned her points with a win at the Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo #2, a second place finish at the Blue Hawk Stampede, a third place finish at the Mystics Stampede Rodeo, a fourth place finish at the Triton Stampede, and an eighth place finish at the Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo #1.
- The No. 3 cowgirl in goat tying in the Great Plains Region is Fagerhaug who has tallied 403.3 points with a first place tie at the Triton Stampede, a second place finish at the Falcon Frontier Days Rodeo, tied for second the Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo #2, a third place finish at the Blue Hawk Stampede, and a ninth place finish at the Mystics Stampede Rodeo.
- Haley Husted has accumulated 260 points in goat tying this season to rank No. 8 in the region as she won the event at the Mystics Stampede Rodeo, finished fourth at the Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo #2, sixth at the Falcon Frontier Days Rodeo, and tenth at the Blue Hawk Stampede.
- Rounding out the top-10 in the regional rankings in goat tying is Ohm, who has tallied 141.5 points with a tie for second place at the Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo #1, an eighth place finish at the Falcon Frontier Days Rodeo, and a ninth place finish at the Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo #2.
- Just outside of the top-10 in the Great Plains Region in goat tying is Kenzie Homelvig who is No. 11 with 106 points as she notched a fifth place finish at the Mystics Stampede Rodeo, a sixth place finish at the Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo #1, and a ninth place finish at the Triton Stampede.
- Capri Cammack enters the spring ranking No. 13 in the region in goat tying as she has tallied 90 points with a tie for second place at the Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo #2.
- Rounding out the seven Yellow Jackets that make up nearly half of the Great Plains regional rankings is Linley Schmitz who is currently tied for No. 15 in the standings as she has accumulated 55 points with a fifth place finish in the Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo #2.
