COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – On Friday evening prior to tip-off of the second semifinal at the RMAC Men's Basketball Tournament in Golden, Colorado, Black Hills State University sophomore guard
Blake Volmer was recognized as the 2024-25 recipient of the Summit Award in the sport of men's basketball. The Winner, South Dakota, native becomes the second recipient of the award from the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference for the Yellow Jacket basketball program, joining Tommy Donovan who earned the accolade in 2020-21.
Volmer has appeared in 25 games this season for BHSU, logging 11.2 minutes per game as he has totaled 47 points, 51 rebounds, 11 assists, seven steals, and one block on the year. He's scored four or more points on seven occasions, including matching a career-high of seven points against Western Colorado in January. He's also hauled down three or more rebounds in ten games, which was highlighted by a career-high of six boards against Regis in February. Another career-best mark came when he dished out three assists against Adams State on the final weekend of the regular season. Contributing to one of the top 3-point shooting teams in the country, he connected on multiple shots from beyond the arc two times with a pair against Westminster and Sul Ross State. In the classroom Volmer holds a 4.0 cumulative GPA as a business administration major and is pursuing a minor in athletic coaching.
The RMAC's Summit Award is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA competing at the finals site of their respective sport's championship. Summit Award winners must have competed in 20 percent of available competitions throughout the current season. All GPAs are based on a straight-grading scale to ensure consistency among nominees. All ties are broken by the total number of credit hours completed through the most recently concluded semester.
To be eligible for the award, student-athletes must be sophomores or above and have participated in their sport at their institution for at least two years. They must also be active members of their teams and travel to and compete at the RMAC championship event.
