AZUSA, Calif. – It was a bright and early morning for the first day of the west coast trip for the Black Hills State University track & field team as Sylvia Brown kicked-off the week for the mid-distance and distance crews by competing at the Bryan Clay Invitational. Stepping onto the track at Cougar Athletic Stadium at 7:30 a.m. local time as part of the Breakfast with Beynon session of the meet, she went on to break her own school record in the 10,000m run to become the Yellow Jackets' fourth student-athlete to notch an NCAA provisional mark this outdoor season.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED – WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD

• As the lone Black Hills State athlete competing during the day, Sylvia Brown shattered her own school record and previous career-best time in the 10,000m run by 28.21 seconds, which she set two years ago also at the Bryan Clay Invitational. She crossed the finish line in a time of 35:03.93 for eighth place in the open B section of the event. In the field of 55 student-athletes, she bested 31 NCAA Division I runners, posting a time that ranks 17^th in all of NCAA Division II this season.

The Black Hills State track & field teams will have athletes in action in three different meets on Thursday, April 17, as a part of the California trip. Competing at the Bryan Clay Invitational will be Braden Anderson in the 800m run, at the Pacific Coast Invitational will be Kendall Tietjen in the 400m hurdles, and at the ULV Leopard Invitational will be Abigail Robberson and Turner Christians in the 10,000m run.
