Pole Vaulters Shine on Opening Day of RMAC Championships

GOLDEN, Colo. – The Black Hills State University men's and women's track & field teams kicked-off the 2025 RMAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Friday morning at the Stermole Track & Field Complex on the campus of Colorado School of Mines and immediately saw success in the jumps. Within the first few events of the day three Yellow Jackets had already earned all-conference honors, as Chase Maher and Erin Weibel secured First Team All-RMAC in the men's and women's pole vault and McKalester Johns added Second Team All-RMAC in the men's pole vault. During the evening the action on the track began and a pair of BHSU athletes punched their tickets to Sunday's finals as Flynn Johnston and Kendall Tietjen advanced in the men's and women's 400m hurdles. After day one the Black Hills State women's team sits in fifth place with 7.5 points, while the men's team is tied for sixth with ten points.

HOW IT HAPPENED – MEN'S TRACK & FIELD
  • Kicking-off the 2025 RMAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, Barren Yellow Bird and Logan Class recorded 18th and 20th place finishes in the javelin throw respectively. Yellow Bird posted a throw of 37.45m (122' 10.25"), while Class notched a mark of 36.25m (118' 11").
  • The first team points of the conference championship came in the pole vault as Chase Maher secured six points and First Team All-RMAC honors with a career-best mark of 4.87m (15' 11.5") for third place. Maher's height keeps him third on the Yellow Jacket All-Time Performance List. Also earning team points for BHSU in the pole vault was McKalester Johns who recorded a sixth place finish and Second Team All-RMAC honors as he cleared a career-best height of 4.62m (15' 1.75") for three team points. Johns' height ranks eighth in program history.
  • Class was the highest finishing Yellow Jacket in the hammer throw, posting a career-best mark of 47.62m (156' 2.75") for 14th place. Also competing in the event was Anthony Rosenstrauch who earned a 19th place finish with a throw of 40.13m (131' 7.75").
  • Bridger Anderson led six Black Hills State athletes in the long jump, earning one team point with an eighth place finish as he posted a career-best mark of 6.80m (22' 3.5"). Rounding out the top-10 in the event was Seth Wilson, who notched a mark of 6.61m (21' 8"). Other Yellow Jackets competing were Jayden Curtis who was 13th with a jump of 6.39m (20' 11.5"), Trennan Pearson who was 16th with a jump of 6.23m (20' 5.25"), Javin Walker who was 19th with a jump of 6.19m (20' 3.5"), and Casen Willson who was 20th with a jump of 5.99m (19' 7.75").
  • In the decathlon Conor McGraw is currently sixth in the standings with 3,118 points, earning results such as fourth place in the 100m dash (11.47), fifth place in the shot put (11.51m (37' 9.25")), sixth in the 400m dash (52.75), and seventh place in the long jump (5.81m (19' 0.75")) and high jump (1.70m (5' 7")).
  • Jonah Rigg led a trio of Yellow Jackets in the 1,500m run prelims, clocking a time of 4:05.08 for 16th place. Additionally, Addison Red Fox ran to a time of 4:09.23 for 19th place and Caden Strasser finished 24th with a time 4:22.13.
  • Tallying a time of 51.38 in the 400m dash prelims was Drew Lehman as he ran to a 23rd place finish.
  • The duo of Jace Johnson and Mason Sartain posted times of 10.94 and 10.99 respectively for 13th and 15th place in the 100m dash prelims.
  • The lone Yellow Jacket competing in the 400m hurdles, Flynn Johnston clocked a time of 54.44 for sixth place to qualify for the event's finals on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED – WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD
  • Starting the 2025 RMAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, Isabell Higgins was the lone Yellow Jacket to record a mark in the hammer throw with a mark of 41.26m (135' 4.25") for 18th place.
  • Erin Weibel earned the first team points of the conference championships for Black Hills State as she cleared a career-best height 3.68m (12' 0.75") for third place and First Team All-RMAC honors. The mark moves Weibel into a tie for sixth on the Yellow Jacket All-Time Performance List. Also collecting team points in the event was Gretchen Adamski who tied for seventh place by clearing a career-best height of 3.38m (11' 1") for 1.5 points. Adamski's mark moves her into ninth on the program's top-10. Tying for tenth place in the pole vault was Brekkan Lockhart who posted a mark of 3.23m (10' 7").
  • The pair of Alessandra Broussard and Alivia Weathers round out the top-10 of the heptathlon as they have tallied 2,248 and 2,225 points respectively for ninth and tenth place. On day one Broussard turned in a ninth place finish in the 100m hurdles with a career-best time of 16.49, was ninth place in the shot put (8.94m (29' 4")), tenth place finish in the 200m dash (27.34), and a 15th place finish in the high jump (1.34m (4' 4.75")). Weathers recorded day one results of fifth in the shot put (10.74m (35' 3")), 12th place in the high jump (1.37m (4' 6"), 11th in the 100m hurdles (17.10), and 13th in the 200m dash (28.65).
  • In the first event of the day on the track, Katelyn Krieger posted a 15th place finish in the 1,500m run prelims with a time of 4:54.60.
  • In the 400m dash prelims, Gracie Wilts notched a 19th place finish as she ran to a career-best time of 1:01.55.
  • Kendall Tietjen ran to a second place finish in the prelims of the 400m hurdles, clocking a new career-best and NCAA Provisional time of 1:01.35 to qualify for the finals on Sunday afternoon. Tietjen remains second on the Yellow Jacket All-Time Performance List. Carlie DeBoer added a top-10 finish but was just one one-hundredth of a second out of qualifying for the finals as she ran to a career-best time of 1:03.65 for ninth place. DeBoer's time moves her into fourth place on the program's all-time top-10.
