Tietjen and Boyd Cap Junior Seasons with Career-Best and Top-10 Times in Program History at Last Chance Meets

KEARNEY, Neb. – The Black Hills State University men's and women's track & field teams concluded a weekend of last chance meets on Saturday evening at the Loper Twilight and the Franson Last Chance. Starting the night in the Cornhusker State, Kendall Tietjen ran a new career-best and the second-fastest time in program history in the 400m hurdles at Nebraska-Kearney. The action for the Yellow Jackets then shifted west to The Golden State where Evie Boyd also ran a career-best time under the lights of the Cougar Athletic Stadium at Azusa Pacific, posting the seventh-fastest time in school history in the 3,000m steeplechase.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED – MEN'S TRACK & FIELD AT LOPER TWILIGHT
  • Running 0.26 seconds faster than his time last night in the 400m hurdles, Aiden O'Leary clocked a time of 53.03 for fifth place in the event. The time was his second-fastest time of the year and his fifth sub-54 second time of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED – WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD AT LOPER TWILIGHT
  • Kendall Tietjen ran to a new career-best time of 1:00.61 in the 400m hurdles, improving her time that ranks second on the Yellow Jacket All-Time Performance List by 0.74 seconds. The improved time moved her up seven spots on the list of NCAA Provisional times, now ranking 39th in NCAA Division II.
HOW IT HAPPENED – WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD AT FRANSON LAST CHANCE
  • Winning her heat of the 3,000m steeplechase in a career-best time of 11:05.83, Evie Boyd recorded a sixth place finish overall in a field of 21 athletes under the lights of the Cougar Athletic Stadium. Her time bested her previous career-best time by 16.27 seconds and now ranks seventh in Yellow Jacket history.

Black Hills State now awaits the selection of national qualifiers for the 2025 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships, set to take place May 22-24 at the CSU Pueblo ThunderBowl in Pueblo, Colorado. The announcement of participants will be via a press release on NCAA.com at 4 p.m. MT on Tuesday, May 13.
