SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University men's and women's rodeo season has reached its end point for 2024-25 as they prepare to cap the year on the biggest stage at the College National Finals Rodeo at the Ford Wyoming Center in Casper, Wyoming. With six student-athletes set to compete, including
Emma Ohm (breakaway roping),
Cashae McGee (women's all-around, barrel racing, and goat tying),
Haley Husted (goat tying),
Sierra Steele (barrel racing),
Raylee Fagerhaug (goat tying), and
Jess Harper (team roping), the action gets underway on Sunday, June 15, and looks to come to a close on Saturday, June 21, with the crowning of national champions.

BLACK HILLS STATE MEN'S RODEO STORYLINES
- The Black Hills State men's rodeo team concluded the regular season as the No. 6 ranked team in the NIRA Great Plains Region standings with 1,071.0 points.
- BHSU closed out the year with a sixth place team finish at the Cornhusker College Rodeo, totaling 165 points in the rodeo. The Yellow Jackets posted their best team finish since September as they tied for fifth with 140 points at the Will Lantis Yellow Jacket Stampede in April. The highest team finish of the year thus far has been a fourth place team finish with 226 points at the Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo #1 in September.
- Jess Harper enters the CNFR ranked No. 3 in the Great Plains Region and No. 20 nationally as a team roping heeler as he has tallied 559.0 points this year. He's been a part of one team roping victory as he paired up with Colton Zubach of Dickinson State University at the Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo #2. The pair most recently earned a second place finish at the Cornhusker College Rodeo to secure 125 points with a time of 21.2 seconds to clinch a spot to Casper. Additionally, they earned a second place finish at the Will Lantis Yellow Jacket Stampede with a time of 16.2 seconds on two go arounds and have added a fourth place finish at the Cyclone Stampede, a fifth place finish at the Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo #1 and a tenth place finish at the Mystics Stampede Rodeo.
- Glen Lammers is in his 17th season as the head coach of the Yellow Jacket men's and women's rodeo program. He has coached two BHSU athletes to national titles, including Kristi Steffes in barrel racing in 2016 and Joey Painter in breakaway roping in 2012. Prior to arriving in Spearfish, he coached three national champions at National American University.
#12 BLACK HILLS STATE WOMEN'S RODEO STORYLINES
- The Black Hills State women's rodeo team captured their second straight and tenth Great Plains Region title in the last 14 seasons with 2,969.83 points this year. Additionally, the Yellow Jackets rank No. 12 nationally in the most recent NIRA standings.
- After back-to-back fifth place finishes at the Cyclone Stampede and the Jackrabbit Stampede, the Yellow Jackets once again found their way back to the top of the team standings with 270 points to win the Will Lantis Yellow Jacket Stampede and 385 points for the title at the Cornhusker College Rodeo for their fifth and sixth titles of the year. In six fall rodeos, BHSU claimed team titles at the Falcon Frontier Days Rodeo, Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo #1, Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo #2, and the Triton Stampede. They also finished second at the Blue Hawk Stampede and the Mystics Stampede Rodeo in the first half of the season.
- Cashae McGee ended the regular season ranked No. 2 in the Great Plains Region and is No. 20 nationally in the Women's All-Around standings with 980.0 points. She has earned a pair of all-around titles thus far in the season, occurring at the Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo #2 and the Mystics Stampede Rodeo.
- Also, in the all-around, Emma Ohm earned her second title in the event of the season at the Will Lantis Yellow Jacket Stampede, securing 190 points with 110 points by way of team roping and 80 by breakaway roping. She claimed her one other title in the event at the Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo #1.
- The Yellow Jackets had been a force on the barrel racing scene in the Great Plains Region in 2024-25, with four student-athletes ranking within the top-10 of the region. Sierra Steele leads the quartet and clinched a spot to Casper on her final go at the Cornhusker College Rodeo last month, bringing her point total to 460.0 on the year as she ranks No. 3 in the Great Plains Region. During her last outing in Lincoln, she recorded her third top-3 finish of the year, clocking a time of 30.21 seconds on two go arounds for third place and 100 points. She has also added finishes of second place at the Falcon Frontier Days Rodeo and third at the Triton Stampede this season.
- McGee ranked No. 6 in the region in barrel racing, totaling 342.0 points during the season. She's placed top-5 at five different rodeos this year by finishing third at the Falcon Frontier Days Rodeo and the Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo #1, fourth at the Triton Stampede and the Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo #2, and fifth at the Mystics Stampede Rodeo.
- Ohm captured the Great Plains Region title in breakaway roping and enters the CNFR ranked No. 2 nationally with 700.0 points through ten rodeos so far this season. She secured the regional title at the Cornhusker College Rodeo, earning her sixth top-5 finish of the year and third straight, with a time of 5.5 seconds on two go arounds for fifth place and 45 points. She has also recorded a pair of titles in the event with wins at the Falcon Frontier Days Rodeo and the Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo #1, while also adding a third place finish at the Will Lantis Yellow Jacket Stampede, a fourth place finish at the Jackrabbit Stampede, a fifth place finish at the Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo #2, a seventh place finish at the Triton Stampede, and a ninth place finish at the Mystics Stampede Rodeo.
- The cowgirl that ended the year with the most momentum throughout the Great Plains Region since the end of last fall is Haley Husted, as she has continued her climb up the standings to No. 3 in the region and No. 21 in the nation in goat tying with 715.0 points. Despite her streak of top-3 finishes coming to an end, she has continued her streak of top-5 finishes as she has now done so in five straight rodeos. In her last outing she recorded a fourth place finish with a time of 14.0 seconds on two go arounds for 80 points at the Cornhusker College Rodeo. She had entered the fall finale sitting 12th in the region with just 85 points, but since that point has climbed nine spots and accumulated 630.0 points. She has earned two titles this season at the Will Lantis Yellow Jacket Stampede (13.6) and the Mystics Stampede Rodeo (14.3), additionally she finished second at the Cyclone Stampede, third at the Jackrabbit Stampede, fourth at the Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo #2, sixth at the Falcon Frontier Days Rodeo, and tenth at the Blue Hawk Stampede.
- Ranking No. 4 in the Great Plains Region in goat tying is Raylee Fagerhaug, who is also No. 23 nationally with 663.3 points through ten rodeos. In her last outing she secured her second win of the season, clocking a time of 13.3 seconds on two go arounds and earning 180 points at the Cornhusker College Rodeo. She has also clinched a first place tie at the Triton Stampede, a second place finish at the Falcon Frontier Days Rodeo, tied for second the Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo #2, a third place finish at the Blue Hawk Stampede, a sixth place finish at the Jackrabbit Stampede, a seventh place finish at the Will Lantis Yellow Jacket Stampede, and a ninth place finish at the Mystics Stampede Rodeo this year.
- McGee rounded out the top-5 in the Great Plains Region in goat tying with 638.0 points this season. She earned her second straight and sixth top-5 finish in the event entering Casper in her last outing, finishing fifth place with a time of 14.1 seconds on two go arounds, earning 80 points at the Cornhusker College Rodeo. She earned her points this season with a win at the Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo #2, a second place finish at the Blue Hawk Stampede, a third place finish at the Mystics Stampede Rodeo, a fourth place finish at the Triton Stampede, a fifth place finish at the Will Lantis Yellow Jacket Stampede, an eighth place finish at the Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo #1, and a tenth place finish at the Jackrabbit Stampede.
