Yellow Jackets No. 21 in Eighth Regular Season Release of the NABC Top-25

SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University men's basketball team fell to No. 21 in the eighth release of the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) NCAA Division II Top-25 on Tuesday afternoon after going 1-1 against RMAC competition during the weekend. The Yellow Jackets first held off New Mexico Highlands (79-74) and then the fell on a last second layup to league-leading Fort Lewis (78-76) in a battle of the RMAC's top-2 teams. The loss to the Skyhawks snapped a 10-game home win streak that spanned nearly a full calendar year and was the longest in both the state of South Dakota and the RMAC. The Green & Gold now currently sit at 13-3 (6-2 RMAC) on the season and are among three teams tied for second place in the conference standings.

The Yellow Jackets remain among the top statistically in the nation in several different categories, including ranking fifth in NCAA Division II in effective field goal percentage (58.5%), is ninth in field goal percentage (50.6%), tenth in assists per game (18.3), 14th in defensive rebounds per game (28.75), 21st in assist/turnover ratio (1.42), 25th in scoring margin (+12.8), and is 26th in free throw percentage (76.7%).

The Yellow Jackets continue to be the lone Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) team to be ranked or receiving votes and are one of seven ranked or receiving votes in the South Central Region as Lone Star Conference foes Lubbock Christian is No. 11, Eastern New Mexico is No. 19, St. Edward's is No. 25, and Dallas Baptist, West Texas A&M, and St. Mary's are each receiving votes.

Black Hills State is back on the road this weekend, first making a trip to Grand Junction, Colorado, to face Colorado Mesa at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 22, in Brownson Arena. Then the Yellow Jackets travel to Gunnison, Colorado, for a 3 p.m. tip-off on Saturday, January 24, in Paul Wright Gym against Western Colorado. Both games will be streamed live on the RMAC Network and will be available on KDSJ Radio.
