SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University men's basketball team picked up a pair of road wins in RMAC play this past weekend, defeating Colorado Mesa (85-63) and Western Colorado (86-76) to move into sole possession of second place in the league standings. With the pair of wins, the Yellow Jackets stopped a stretch of two consecutive weeks falling in the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) NCAA Division II Top-25 poll and in turn moved up two spots to No. 19 in the ninth regular season release. In the win over the Mavericks, the Green & Gold put on a shooting clinic, tying a school record 19 made 3-pointers while shooting 50.0 from beyond the arc. Additionally,
Cam Lowe, who averaged 26.0 points and 4.5 rebounds per game last week while shooting the ball 63.3 percent from the field and 64.3 percent from beyond the arc, notched a new career-high of 31 points against CMU as he hit 7-of-10 from distance.
The Yellow Jackets remain among the top statistically in the nation in several different categories, including ranking third in NCAA Division II in effective field goal percentage (59.0%), is ninth in field goal percentage (50.6%), tenth in assists per game (18.3), 11
th in assist/turnover ratio (1.51), 15
th in both defensive rebounds per game (28.56) and 3-pointers per game (10.3), 17
th in free throw percentage (77.7%), 19
th in 3-point percentage (38.7%), and is 23
rd in scoring margin (+13.1).
The Yellow Jackets continue to be the lone Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) team to be ranked or receiving votes and are one of five ranked or receiving votes in the South Central Region as Lone Star Conference foes Lubbock Christian is No. 9, Eastern New Mexico is No. 18, St. Edward's is No. 22, and Dallas Baptist is No. 24.
Black Hills State concludes a 3-game road swing on Tuesday, January 27, as they visit Chadron State for a 7 p.m. contest in the Chicoine Center in Chadron, Nebraska. Then on Saturday, January 31, the Yellow Jackets host rival South Dakota Mines for a 6 p.m. tip-off in A2 Arena in Spearfish. Both games will be streamed live on the RMAC Network and will be available on KDSJ Radio. Saturday's games against the Hardrockers will also air on linear tv on KNBN-2 (Rapid City) and KSFL (Sioux Falls).
